Jeremy Corbyn

The irony is that Corbyns popularity is vastly overstated - in polls of 'Best PM' he regulary comes in third place behind May and 'Dont Know'. Hes less popular than his party.

In view of this its a mystery why his fanclub think he's an electoral asset.

The Tories are currently the opposite of a personality cult, surely? No-one likes Theresa May on any level whatsoever, but people still inexplicably vote for the party.

His unpopularity is also overstated - but his personal polling numbers increased during the election campaign which adds weight to his being an electoral asset although that was in comparison to Theresa May so maybe not much competition.

Sure - put Corbyn on a stage at Glastonbury to do his greatest hits and he'll have them eating out of his hand. But as a political leader his tenure has been marked by continual missteps and bungled strategies.

And thats before we even consider his appalling behaviour over Brexit.

I don't understand why socialists are refusing to acknowledge the decent into a cult that is happening to the Labour Party. Seems odd to me, especially as some are very quick to point out how nasty the Tory party has got.

Seems like a double standard to me.

If this is aimed at me, as Ive said before, I have no particular interest in Labour. Never been a Labour voter (apart from a brief flirtation with Tone back in '97).

It is perfectly logical to criticise the Tories and at the same time have little interest in Labour's internal strife - one party are in power and affecting the lives of millions. One very much isn't.

Not aimed at you SLA. Apologies if you thought that way.

I'm no expert but Claudia Webbe appears to be an Islington councillor with a long record of anti-racist work behind her. Not sure what the issue is here...?

Given Corbyn's current problems he probably shouldnt appoint a disciplinary head who defended Ken Livingstone when he compared a Jewish reporter to a concentration camp guard.

Sure. Not that it matters.

Depends how long you want to frame something in a particular way. Webbe didn’t defend what Livingstone said to the journalist but defended his character as in he was not racist. I don’t know Ken Livingstone but I know for a fact that he has done more for anti-racism than the Daily Mail.

Indeed

The judge at the time said that though the comments were offensive it was clear Livingstone was no racist. The fact we're having this conversation 12 years later says a lot about the level of scrutiny Corbyn is under.
