January Transfer Window, 25/26 Season

It's a strange one from United's POV. I think there's got to be serious doubts over his capacity to play in a double pivot at this level in the same way that there are about Ugarte. Too easily sucked into duels in positions where if he loses out he exposes his partner.

Joao Gomes is no way good enough to play central midfield in a decent Manchester United side.

Looks good sometimes for us, largely because of the shite around him - and the fact he even looks like he gives a fuck makes him a fans favourite.

He’d be pretty limited for a top side - endeavour, tenacity, work rate all look good when you’re a Wolves player but you need a bit more than that at a higher level.

It’s sad. He’s probably the only player at Wolves that id (loosely) say that I like.

But he can go now, just like all of them, for the right money.

Yeah, it’s been disappointing to me that, even if it’s not nearly as bad as under GO, he still gets over-enthusiastic and breaks our own lines.

I wouldn't want him to stop trying it altogether as he sometimes wins the ball in positions you wouldn't expect him to. You'd be asking him to play within himself if you did that and what you'd be left with wouldn't be that special of a player really.

He seems more suited for a 4-3-3 in my opinion. Spurs or Newcastle would be much better destinations for him, even if he'd have a struggle to get into both of their starting XI.

Totally agree; it seems a facet of his play regardless, so we should be putting him in a position to maximize that, and we just don't.

Many such cases in the current squad, IMO, though we really don't need to expound on what I'm sure are our many differences in opinion on that particular point. 😅

Gomes came with promise and potential but hasn't really shown much more. He has quite a limited set of skills and isn't outstanding at the things he is good at and the stuff he isn't good at is unlikely to develop. Tenaciousness and hard work will only take him so far
..and I think Wolves is as good as it gets, anywhere else he is a squad player.

He wanted to be here so that immediately endeared him to supporters but that should not obscure what he actually is...competent.

I was absolutely besotted with Gomes for a year or so. I'm fairly sure I predicted he'd captain Brazil to the 2030 world cup. For miserable, cynical old bastard I really can be prone to the odd bit of romantic hyperbole

He's had a few really good games. Spurs away under GON for one, he was brilliant that day, but it's never been consistent enough for me, and his decision making and shooting is awful, it's like he tries too hard.

(That effort at Sunderland when MM chested it down to him was pitiful)

I guess he's still young, and with a good coach if those weaknesses could get ironed out he'd be a superb player, not going to happen here though obviously

He’s a fantastic ball winner and can dribble/stay on the ball under pressure. He’s still clearly one of our only two or three good players, weighed down a lot by the quality around him. We can’t keep making the team worse and expect someone like him not to have to over-compensate, which he clearly has been at times.

You guys have few MFs and the option of Winter is sell Gomes?

That is a crazy movement, you guys need one DMF and two wing forwards, and if Sell Gomes find two MFs are hard..

You guys need move that player dont use, and try find good player in the 2º división of uk or spanish. Or another team need Sell like R. Sociedad.

What we need is players who will be able to arrest our unstoppable slide into nothingness. You're speaking to a fan base who have witnessed their team suffer back to back relegations on multiple occasions. A lot of us are far more worried about what might await us next season than what is currently happening to us.

João Gomes will not be a Wolves player next season. If we can sell him for £44M now and replace him with someone who can help us compete in one of the most competitive leagues in the world next year then I think we'd prefer that.
