January 2022 Transfer Thread

Adama has apparently put in a transfer request and asked his agent to reach out to Spanish clubs. Also, we'd apparently be happy to recoup net zero on the fee.

So, probably all bullshit.
Is this from the ESPN article? And he wants to go to Real Madrid? Now, I like Adama and want him to stay, but I also think if their is any truth to this, then he needs to give his head a wobble because I don't think he would even play all that much for them would he?

Yep, and I agree that the Real Madrid detail specifically throws the whole thing out of whack. Hence, probably all bullshit.

Newcastle going for Botman according to Ornstein.

I've only watched a bit of Botman and nothing live, only highlights and only since we've been linked to him.

He's big and strong but he's pretty slow. Not what we need imo.

Someone mobile and with a turn of pace next to Kilman would be my preference

Origi has been pillared on this very forum, but he showed at the weekend that he's exactly the kind of quality we could have done with adding to the squad, given the opportunity. Put it this way - who would people rather have to bring off the bench - Origi or Fabio? I know who I'm picking every day of the week.

That's not the argument to have though, would anyone want Origi starting most weeks? I wouldn't, whether he scored against us on Saturday or not, and for what he'd cost (fee/wages) he'd have to (plus the only reason he'd leave Liverpool is if he fancied starting games, he isn't swapping their bench for ours). His record is pretty dreadful and his technique is horrible.

Fabio doesn't come into it, we all know that's increasingly looking like a bad error.

What's the gist of it?
Nothing much. Lots of stuff about us being desparate for goals and Raul looks knackered for the last 10-15 minutes of every match so why isn't he getting a kick? Should he be doing more? etc.

There was an interesting bit questioning his attitude. Said he had a falling out with a background member of staff, that they weren't happy with his attitude in a behind closed door friendly and that he was told (along with Hoever and Trincao) to stop watching the game and to get on with a warm up.

I think we all know he's going to end up costing this club millions. Absolutely no way we ever make a profit on him.

Forget the bench, as a starter I'm pretty sure Origi would have more impact than Hwang.

I would have him starting up front with Raul in a 3-5-2, yes.

Then we have a very different bar on what kind of forward we would like :D

He's a striker who has never once got in double figures in the league for anyone. Hasn't even managed as many as 5 since 2016/17.

Plus if we start playing 3-5-2 then it makes vast swathes of our squad unusable, we just aren't going to do it.

You missed the bit off where a Fabio loan was discussed by the back room staff.

It's not a simple conversation. You could bring in two forwards to strengthen the squad, for example. One like Origi, who can play alongside Raul in a 3-5-2, and another with a similar skillset to Raul who can offer us an alternative when needed (which is, i assume, the type of forward you think we should be going for?). Obviously a growing number of us have no trust in Fosun or Jeff or the recruitment team to go out there and sign the glaring shortfalls in our squad, let alone two forwards - but if we did, it would mean Fabio could go out and get some football and hopefully some confidence under his belt, which in turn, might help us get some money back on him.

Looking at our wingers, it's only really Podence I am fussed about. Traore can go (hopefully we can mug someone for £30 odd million and put that one to bed), because it doesn't look like he wants to be here. Trincao isn't anywhere near where he needs to be on the physical front for this league - and whilst I think he's a talented lad, it wasn't his physical traits that made him miss an absolute sitter the other week. Neto, i think, could play just behind Raul in a 3-5-2 because he's so direct, or as an out and out winger that we're used to seeing.

Essentially, the squad is in desperate need of a revamp. We might disagree on specific players (Origi), but I think we all agree on this.

Bruno has spoken about being able to play two systems and having players that will allow him to do this smoothly and we're a good 3-4 players off that at the moment.

If we could get to 30 points asap, I'd really be looking to play a back four from there on. I don't see us challenging for a european position, so it would give us a chance to try something to help us kick on (freely acknowledge managers rarely think like this).

Sa
Semedo Coady Kilman RAN
Moutinho Neves
Traore AM Hwang
Raul

Or play 442. We need to see Coady/Kilman in a back four under Bruno to find out true capabilities I think. And we all know we need a new midfielder of course.
