I did read your post. But the tone of “he might come good” “we’ve got to wait 3-4 years to find out” and stuff like that suggests the club had some kind of plan. There was no plan, it was a bung.
We signed Fabio before last season. Blackburn didn’t sign him after the first season. They signed him 3 years later after a good season. But yes, I know you were joking.
I don’t think it does. On the evidence before his signing it’s a poorly calculated gamble/bung, made worse as the club has FFP issues and a small squad.
Him “coming good” would be more luck than judgment on the fee, evidence pre signing and resulting impact on the club. He literally has to become one of the worlds best strikers for it to be remotely justified.
I still think Silva might become a really good player, the weird thing is buying him and then having to wait 3-4 years to find out. As has been pointed out on here before, strikers usually mature later than other players. Think it was said even Shearer didn't score hardly at all before his early 20's, Fabio is still 2-3 years off that.
I can just imagine him having a breakthrough season and then us having to sell him for a cut price fee because he's only got a year left on his contract and refuses to sign a new one.
I really don't know how you can take from that I'm saying the club have a plan? If anything I'm saying the club are negligent.
Yes I was joking.
It really will make hilarious reading, for me.
It has nothing to do with the fee or anything like that, he's been dismissed as being shit without any hope of ever being a good player on here countless times. I'd imagine if the internet had been around when Shearer was coming through there would have been people saying he was shit and would never amount to anything, given his poor goal return in those first few years. It would amusing to read those opinions back with hindsight given Shearers career, no?
FWIW I've always found your posts about him as a player balanced and fair.Fair enough. Maybe it’s previous influencing my views, maybe it’s ANY sort of reasoning on the Fabio deal sets me off as being batshit mental (it is, there is no sound reasoning).
I don’t think any of my views will be hillarious reading. He may become “a good player”. But a good player isn’t enough for the short, medium and long term issues it will/has caused the club, and on the evidence pre signing would be more luck than judgment. I don’t really think that’s debatable.
Not sure if you were generally around at the time but the reaction to Kightly signing for us was something else. "Why are we going for players from non-league" etc. A month later he was our best player.
My issue with Fabio right now is I'm not actually sure what he's good at.
I liked his movement last season and on occasion his touch was tremendous. Not seen as much of him this season but he looks to have regressed and Lage doesn't seem to trust him.Not sure if you were generally around at the time but the reaction to Kightly signing for us was something else. Agreed I think he has good instincts for where to be in the box. Deffo needs to play. A season in the Championship would do him the world of good. It'll never happen due to his fee though.I actually think Fabio will be a very good goalscorer. But he does need to go and play, whereas we clearly aren’t going to loan him out
So he’s Fomo Fabio! If we were ever going to sign him, we were forced into doing it when we did by Brexit.
We couldn't sign him now, he wouldn't have enough points; and if he does start to hit the heights where he did have enough points to sign him we wouldn't be able to afford him. If we were going to buy him (and I appreciate the jury is out on that), it had to be then.
Somewhere in the annals of the Internet, I'm on record as calling Havard Flo and Oleg Luzhny good signings.
I think it's more a limitation of our current squad depth than anything else.He can't be happy surely with sitting on the bench and never coming on. Could they really deny him if he forcefully asked for a loan, better that than have an unhappy disruptive player on your hands. Think Lage even made that point about MGW didn't he.
If only we'd pulled off that Kieffer Moore deal off ehI think it's more a limitation of our current squad depth than anything else.
The only plausible explanation is a Tony Roberts wind up with the mediaIf only we'd pulled off that Kieffer Moore deal off eh
Oh Boo Hoo, some of us had Ceefax, the E&S and the Pink for reportsThe old E&S boards (as well as an official Wolves board, though they were full of horrible racist shite until the club thought er, no, best not eh).
Glory days. I was 17 when we bought Big Havard with my dial up connection that cut off the landline if you happened to use the Internet. Good times.
