January 2022 Transfer Thread

To be honest it's fairly standard accounting practice with assets and liabilities. Just football shouldn't work like that (and until FFP came in, it didn't matter much anyway)

Yeah I don't think there's anything shady as such in a legal sense but it's obviously nonsense, whatever cash goes out the door is replaced by an asset (player) of the same value so the transfer effectively costs 0 from the accounts perspective. Then amortisation spreads the value over the length of their contract as a depreciating asset.

As shown with the quick Jota/Silva/Semedo example it can paint a very different picture to actual cash flow depending on how the real payments are structured.

It is imperative that we replace neves moutinho and Raul when the time comes , with something more than potential for me. Others may see it differently. Doesn’t make me a bad person 😇
Which goes back to Kieran's misunderstanding at the weekend it's not about FFP, it's about self imposed spending limits
even I get that now

Does the signing of PEA make it less likely that they'll take their option to sign Adama in the summer?

I'd say the bigger issue is Coutinho coming back, that screws a hell of a lot of things for them. But I don't want him to do well for Villa...

Wasn't expecting anything else.

They'll be under pressure to spend some more in the summer. Prices gone up for everyone, accounts out, clubs sniffing around Neves et al, and hopefully a decent finishing position this season.

Well Im gonna say it....

It was a great window cus we day lose Neves.... ;)

Dull/ predictable/ annoying as our window was, I have West Ham and Arsenal mates who are livid at their owners. Precisely the same criticisms as those levelled at Fosun…just even angrier.

Fosun really need to spend big in the summer, or else the fans will really begin to turn. Doing your main business in January always leads to over-inflated fees, so it makes sense not to spend crazy money. However, if we want to hold onto the likes of Neves long-term, he needs to be shown that the club want to spend money to progress to regular European football. I think the remainder of this season and the summer is make or break.

You can tell its another thrilling transfer window when the thread turns into a discussion on accounting.

It's a difficult position for the club to grow whilst we have strict financial restrictions, I cant see our star players being happy with this. We need to pull a few rabbits out of a hat come the summer

We are left hoping we get away with it. We all know our first 11 and a couple of the bench are up to standard, but what's below it is by and large untested. We are left hoping for good luck with suspensions, injuries and fatigue. That's not changed much throughout our time in the PL though.

If we do get one of those in midfield this season could well look like an opportunity missed

One positive, probably unintended, consequence of our small squad is that younger players are getting (and taking) their chance - Kilman, RAN and Gomes would very much not have featured without injuries.

And two have been excellent while the third shows bags of promise he could be as well. It's almost like the people within the club actually have half a clue as to what they're doing.

With Percy saying early in the month that we wouldn’t be spending my expectations matched reality. The only real positive is Traore has gone abroad and we should get a decent fee for him. I just hope most of it isn’t spent on Trincao unless he shows significant improvement between now and May.

Back in August we all thought we were short in midfield and then there was the remote prospect Jordao might come good. That hope is gone now so how our season goes could well hinge on how Cundle performs if he is required. I just hope he does better than Silva last season or that gap to teams below us will disappear very quickly.

Not surprising at all but all the same still a disappointing window again.
Club will point to the fact they’ve secured a player already at the club and have bought in future prospects.
Reality is we’ve ended this window weaker than we started it. Regardless of what you think of Traore he was always an option.
We are bouncing against our glass ceiling in 8th place and I think we’ll probably end up between there and about 12th depending on injuries.
First 11 very good depth very weak.
