January 2021 Transfer Window

I generally try and see a bit of the city, plus a bar or two, when I go places for the football. Florence is stunning, a little version of Rome for me and far better than the more northern cities of Milan, Turin and Genoa. Naples is madness though!

In a season where we're not going down and not making Europe, there's no sense in spending decent money in a window in which it's tough to find value. Cutrone and Silva can tide us through til the end of the season. Then we'll also have a better understanding on if/how well Raul will come back, and we can reassess our position there.
Also both of them, and Cutrone more have a massive point to prove. Every goal that he (cutrone) scores is one up to him i would imagine. Potentially he is the guy you would back to score a hatful under the circumstances.

Listened to the Athletic podcast.
Spiers' comments re contacts are in context and his general views re the squad building and performances are broadly in line with mine and balanced.

...but says Podence will be back for Everton - he won't and MGW isn't coming back and Cutrone probably will at the end of the window and go straight back out

Lovely City. Remortgage your house before you go
If you eat on the back street not the pont de vechio it’s ok. Must climb the Duomo as it’s amazing! Buy something leather too. The prices are great on jackets belts and handbags. My favourite Italian visit . Awesome.

You are Tim Spiers and I claim my £5

I am happy to give MGW and pizza Pat the next four games to show what they can do. If, however they don’t then I expect some late transfer window movement. We will need it and will have proved we need it.

Is this the same as drawing a line?

I love it how so many people are giving the club ultimatums like they have any say in the matter whatsoever, you'll do fuck all, just whinge a bit more till Summer, with that smug 'told you so' attitude

Or alternatively, people think they’re clever to twist a completely normal post massively out of context. Whatever floats your boat, tbf. But please don’t stop now - it’s only been about 8 hours and it really is hilarious...

Possibly. I don’t think that a manager who states that he feels his squad needs to be rebalanced then accepting two players who he has seen and effectively binned off , will be 100% happy if that’s the only business in the window. It needs a bit more given the long term injuries to Raul and Jonny

Re: Cutrone, I remember thinking it was odd that he was played in a two with Jiminez so often. I don't think that played to his strengths and it showed. Of course, that was a long time ago now; I could be overstating it.

I'm very interested to see how he does but have no expectation whatsoever that it will come off.

A Friday morning bombshell from Spiers. Stay off Twitter today, folks...

As things stand Wolves now not anticipating January additions.

Difficulties in sorting a loan and a reluctance to spend big amid pandemic (plus Jimenez will return, they spent £35m on Silva)

It's a changeable situation but Cutrone the man for now #WWFC

Not good from a footballing point of view, but can see why spending money now might be difficult.

Bit more nuanced than that in the article itself:

Issues with Origi, Jovic and King revolve around their respective clubs preferring permanent deals. With Jimenez on course to return to action at some point (he’s already started light fitness training), Wolves are reluctant to spend big this window when they have Jimenez and Fabio Silva as options for next season. They see Silva, signed for £35 million in the summer, getting plenty of minutes in the next 18 months as key for his development and would have preferred a short-term option to replace Jimenez this season.

That may still happen. They will give Cutrone every opportunity to impress this month, but if the 23-year-old doesn’t start to rediscover the prolific form he showed at the start of his career for AC Milan (and with no goals in his last 16 Serie A appearances, just two of those being starts, he is likely to be low on sharpness and confidence), Wolves may revisit their striker search towards the end of the month.
