January 2020 transfer window

But not instead of Cutrone. Bowen is a deep lying forward or inside forward. As TT says as a replacement for Jota or Adama. He's not as good as either of them.

Cutrone is an off the shoulder striker.

It's an apples and oranges comparison.

What's his position got to do with anything?

I'm saying, in my view, Bowen would have scored some of the chances that Cutrone missed. Its a perfectly valid comparison

The point he is trying to make is because they are different type of strikers he would not have got in the same position as Cutrone.
In all likely hood he would not have scored the chances Cutrone had because he would not have been there

So the point being made is that Bowen wouldn't have got into those positions?

Presumably then Jota wouldn't have either?

You can't be seriously asking that question? Shall we play Boly up front as he's a bloody good finisher too?

Glasgowolf is right. Different players do different things and with Bowen and Jota playing in similar roles they operate much deeper so are very unlikely to be in advanced positions such as Cutrone takes up.

I think its time to improve the actual first team rather than have better back up. A 30 million centre half who likes to play in a three would be good. I would take a Coady back up as well. A serious rival for Mountinho would be good too. Joaos legs won't last forever. If you do want a couple of bench back ups too that's fine and that's where Bowen could come in but the money asked may be silly

As you say we have to improve the first team not buy more back ups. We already have a very good squad with some very good young players to come through (Vinagre, Neto, Jordao, Perry, Sanderson, Kilman) so improving the first team has to be the priority.

You're right, Jota doesn't really get into advanced positions

Well Jeff has set the expectations high with his interview regarding January. Never a fan of bold claims (whether meant or not) as you are setting yourself up to be shot at. End of January he will be King Jeff or Jeff Moxey...

Please not the snake oil man, please.

You can't be this simple. Do you think Raul and Jota play in similar positions or have similar roles?

Is that bit needed? Sure this debate can be done without the crappy bits

It wasn't meant as a jibe.

It was meant as 'You can't think football is a game where just getting people forward means they do the same thing and just saying, 'he plays up front' is adequate as an explanation'. It isn't that simple.

Jeff has said stuff before and we've been left with egg on our face. I would prefer it if he said nothing at all and then expectations wouldn't be through the roof.

His comments are ok on the face of it "I think we will have a good January". Not a lot there BUT his view on a good January will probably be different to mine, yours and certainly to those who like to scream and get attention on Twitter.

I'm still sticking with my opinion that Jeff isn't a fan of Nuno's small squad policy though and would prefer to sign a few more.
