January 2020 transfer window

I’m struggling to see how people are wound up about letting Bennett go. We’ve had our best defender out for 3 months and he hasn’t had a sniff.

The squad has got smaller but it has more balance. That was the issue. We signed a squad for 3-5-2 so had loads of CMs and CBs and few forwards/wingers and 2 strikers.

We’ve now gone 3-4-3 so need less midfielders and the midfielders who were surplus are now doing well at the back so we’ve binned 2 CBs we didn’t need.

We’ve signed genuine attacking talent for the 3 forward positions. The only place we are short is CF. But even then we can play Jota there, if we signed Oliveira I’d probably still play Jota. If Jota and Raul gets injured then the worlds ended and we’d probably have to play 3-5-2.

I'd be more concerned letting Giles back out that letting Bennett go. Vinagre is still a way off and even if they got in the guy from Dagenham I doubt he's going to make such a steep step up and play, which would leave us with no cover for the wing back slots.

I don't think there has been any official comment on Vinagre's injury/lay off period has there?

Not seen anything on how long Vinagre was out for (not surprising for us) & seeing as how (I think) Giles was only recalled due to his injury would be surprised if we let him go back unless Vinagre is almost there to come back in.

"Nuno would not reveal a time-frame but says the Portuguese ace will be out for 'some time'"

You would presume some time meant longer than 2-3 weeks

Bennett goes with our thanks, been excellent for us, a good pro, could still be a good back up but guess he wants to play, mind you would think he will be swapping one bench for another?

Maybe bueno is considered good enough, he's looked pretty decent in the u23s

Just wanting to know what Bennett's attitude is like really.
Unfortunately for him, he's not going to be in a position to get any game time for us without significant injuries, as he's being signed to be 4th choice behind Morgan.
The reason we're in for him is because Benkovic, our current 3rd choice who we've got massive hopes for, needs regular game time before the start of next season.
All being well, should Evans/Soyuncu not suffer injuries and Benkovic get through his loan without issue, I suspect the £5 million future fee in the summer will not be triggered and we will look to put that towards another younger CB for that 4th spot instead.

If you’d asked me if Burr was an option before the Besiktas game I’d have said absolutely not. But he had a decent game. I don’t think Vinagre offers a huge amount at the top end of pitch and Burr would at least be functional for a game if needed, so it’s not a huge difference. There might be other U23s who Nuno rates.

I think WB is the place we will definitely strengthen in the Summer. We will probably be after a CB too but they will need to be elite to improve us by a noticeable amount.

I’d say he’s as good if not better than Morgan who’s their first replacement for Soyuncu and Evans so he’d probably be on their bench but not ours

His attitude is bloody fantastic. Been a great part of our climb back to the top, and has started to drop out of the picture a bit here now, but utterly without complaint. He is an absolute model pro.

There’s no way Bennett will be behind Morgan unless they’re choosing him on historical achievements, Morgan is slower than a tree.

. Vinagre is still a way off

Seems not

@TimSpiers
Ruben Vinagre due back from injury sooner than expected, hence why Ryan Giles being allowed to head out on loan a couple of weeks after being recalled

Giles going to Coventry rather than Shrewsbury though

Would assume Benno can't play against us? Then again, Adama running at Benno...
