January 2020 transfer window

That came from olympiacos press guy.

So much disinformation.

There was an interview with him on YouTube, where he said reports had podence in the Wolverhampton Sunday but there was no verification for this.
He did not mention the photo here showing Podence, how do we know it was taken that game?

How sure are we that he us still in Athens?
My contact has dried up a bit as his contact with the club has been completed for a while, so I don't know the latest

Why do you keep refusing to believe he is in Athens? There was literally a photograph of him at the game Sunday and another one of him at Olympiacos training this morning :icon_lol:

Ah but was that a pic of him at training today or yesterday...

I am glad he is showing himself to be a proper pro during all this. Deal seems close with 1 thing to sort (according to the guy from Olympiacos yesterday) but instead of being a stroppy fuck (as many do) he is putting in the work for his current employer...although I hope the level of work is similar to that of a person on the last day before the Christmas break.

As training lasts like 2 hours, him being at the club in the morning is not nothing to be concerned about. If the final bit of the contract talks are agreed he will be in the UK in time for his afternoon tea

That's my take, as well. Why would the negotiations make him unable to train? If anything, his continued presence in Greece speaks to a professional maturity that Nuno no doubt values highly; IIRC he or Jeff has said as much before about the "psychological fit" or some such language about new signings.

Nobody is saying he shouldn't be training. It just means that this transfer is not imminent - even if a fee was agreed today after personal terms are agreed and a medical is completed you're probably looking at deadline day.

I don't understand why across the social media platforms and message boards people keep asking about it - it's simply not going to happen in the next couple of days.

I am not really bothered whether he signs either way as I simply don't know enough about him to form an opinion on him and 99% of Wolves fans will be in the exact same boat unless they watch loads of Greek football.

Whereas 99% of fans on Twitter know all about him and
1; If we sign him, "why didn't we sign player x instead as he's crap" or
2; If he doesn't sign, "Where's the money gone?! No ambisshun! Fosun out!"

I love Twitter...

I dont refuse to believe. I just said what the olympiakos press guy said in an interview on you tube not even a written report but a Skype interview.
He knows more than we do.

We know Mendez is in Barcelona, my limited knowledge of the way these deals work is that the terms of his contract will be handled by Gestifute, not Podence, he probably will not be their until Mendez tells him the contract is agreed, then he will head to Wolves.

Tbf I suppose Cutrone was still training here right up until the day he left wasn’t he? I’d be less worried if there wasn’t 3 days left and we hadn’t signed anyone!

Pretty much. Whilst the fee was agreed and then the deal with the player was being discussed he was in the USA with AC. Once the personal terms had been agreed, he was on a plane back to Milan then to the UK (and he looked fucked off about it all as well)

What's with the massive clamor to buy players anyway?

Our schedule looks fine now, we've got a winter break coming up.

Cutrone didn't play and Vallejo was rubbish, we aren't going to find anyone near Jimenez or Jota's level in this window.

I'd rather not buy anyone than buy the wrong players. (the players we have got in look great for the future)

I'm chilled, we sign someone great, we don't...well it will have zero impact on anything I do regardng Wolves

however, when small squad + Nuno saying I need players + standard desire to always want a signing = PANIC when it doesn't happen for a lot, especially if you want to stand out on the internet.

Podence looks like he'd genuinely challenge Jota for that spot. Though with Neto emerging as a genuine option, those wide attacking roles aren't as immediate a concern now.

I'd still like to sign him though, because you know, signings!

I think thats a bit harsh Kenny. The biggest worry has been the depth of the squad for the last two years. We have a great first 15 but after that its a gap and we spend lots of time crossing fingers that players do not get injured. On top of that players can have dips in form and peaks in form see Jota and Neto for instance. We have used the fewest players for a reason and when the manager comes out and says to progress we need to bring players in then you know it HAS to happen. Its got bugger all abouit looking great on t'internet

We want to be bringing in players that can bridge that gap and improve us on the whole though. I'd rather sign nobody than litter the squad with squad filler players like Nelson Oliviera on 3 year + deals.

And I would rather see Nelson on the bench than BAS

Except that we desperately need back up for Raul. Everywhere else we can probably cope. Losing Raul to injury will cost us league places. The difference between Raul and BAS is the difference between Emma Watson and my wife

Merely improving on BAS shouldn't really be the aim.

I understand that Raul is one of the most in form strikers in Europe so you're unlikely to find a player of great quality to sit on the bench for 95% of the time, but i'd say the way to mitigate that is to find a quality player who can improve who can play wide as part of a front 3 or through the middle so that they're competing for 3 spots in the team rather than 1.

Benteke would be an upgrade on BAS on the bench but I wouldn't want him here in a million years, it's too simplistic to think upgrading BAS with any old tat is a good thing - especially if you're left with a squad filler option on a 3 year deal that's not really fit for purpose going forward.

Benny Ashley-Seal hasn't even played a minute of league football for us, he isn't as close to playing as people keep making out.
