Israel-Palestine

I haven’t seen the bodycam videos, I don’t want to see them, I know what’s in them is going to be horrendous, what Hamas did was absolutely horrific and there can be no excuse for their actions. What Israel is doing now with their bombing, their blockade and their turning off water and energy supplies is leading to a humanitarian crisis.

Humza Yousaf - The Scottish first minister said:

Every night, Nadia and I go to bed, barely sleeping as we count down the hours until the morning, waiting anxiously for a message from my mother-in-law to tell us they have survived the night.
Throughout the day, the 100 people in the family home, must ration their food. The adults barely eat, my mother-in-law only ate cashew nuts yesterday, they ration so the children in the house don’t end up malnourished, but time is running out.
I spoke to my mother-in-law this morning. She feels helpless and has lost hope.

I don't know how this ends without unimaginable suffering for tens of thousands of innocent people.

I heard a Hamas supporting cunt on the Radio this afternoon trying to say everybody is being lied to about the attack and it was justified as Hamas only killed soldiers.

Not one civilian was killed according to this prick and he insisted the pictures are fabricated.

Hamas are gaslighting Gazans every day with this rubbish.

Israel are going about this the wrong way but Hamas must be destroyed somehow.

I see Israel want the head of the UN Security Council removed because he had the temerity to state that it is wrong to view the deplorable actions of Hamas in a vacuum distinct from the decades of Israeli action against the Palestinian population. Truth hurts I guess.

The problem is, his comments will be seen by many as legitimising Hammas actions.

However you listen to this, and i have done many times today, it comes across as making light of 7th October, which for the gen sec of the UN, is bang out of order.

Nothing exists in a vacuum in history, but even if you're being generous, he came dangerously close to justifying a literal pogrom.

The subtext of what he's saying is that they had their reasons, and those reasons shouldn't be dismissed. Dangerous precedent to set with terrorists. Especially when their stated aims and literal actions are genocidal.

Are we saying Hamas are acting on behalf of the Palestinian people now? Because that's what he's conflating. Rather a naive view of how Islamists operate.

Like Isis and Al Qaeda, they're fucking barbarians, and exploit all the hand-wringing we do in the West about having 'made them that way'

This question was posed on Twitter. Don't know the answers but I thought it was an interesting point.

'Israel’s assault on Gaza in 2014 was the most destructive in the history of the conflict, but the IDF was able to operate w/near impunity. At one point, Israeli missiles took out a bunch of kids playing on a beach, right in front of a hotel housing many foreign journalists. Starting in 2018, Israeli snipers started shooting non-violent protesters approaching the Gaza border. They shot nearly 10,000 people without taking a single casualty themselves. There is a video of Israeli soldiers laughing and cheering as they shoot unarmed people. They shot and killed a disabled man in a wheelchair. This isn’t underground news; it was all known at the time.

Despite all this, Israel and their overseas boosters never lost control of the narrative for even a moment. Most people don’t even know the things I mentioned even happened. But this time around, things have clearly changed. Despite Hamas carrying out their largest and most gruesome terrorist attack ever, Israel has been unable to control the narrative almost from day one. They started taking criticism before they even began to retaliate, while the bodies of Israeli civilians were still warm, and pressure on Israel has only increased since.

What has changed?'
