Hillsborough

Everton FC - take a bow.

What a wonderful moment that was - very emotional.

Agreed - choice of He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother seemed poignant and not cringeworthy. Football doesn't have to divide.

I was welling up watching that.

They probably sat together at derby matches around that time.

I had goose bumps.

I just hope that the Man Utd fans don't ruin what will be an emotional day at Anfield this weekend. Forget the rivalry, both United and Liverpool have suffered from disasters, so is it too much to ask they show respect for each other.

Im sure 99% of them will......however the 1% always stand out.

To be fair*, Blair had only been in office 5 weeks at the time, so the question "Why, what is the point?" may have been a genuine question regarding is there new evidence to be considered.

The comment from Angus Lapsley is more telling about not wanting too many enquiries of this kind. Seems to imply that any dirt dug might reflect badly on the new government, despite incidents happening on a previous government's watch. IE - the civil servants and senior police figures involved wouldn't have changed, whatever party was in power at any particular time.

*I can't believe I am defending him here either

There's a moment in the Hillsborough drama where a fan tells a copper its getting a bit full and the cop responds with 'shut you're $#@!ing prattle'. A typical response to a young male football fan at the time.

In reality, that actually happened to Trevor Hicks who's 2 daughters died at the game, he was in the side pen and could see it happening long before the kick off.
After the crush and that one ambulance that came onto the pitch, his one daughter was put in to it and he got in with her.
The ambulance shut the doors and drove off but he could see his other daughter lying on the pitch....and said he just didnt know if he should stop in the ambulance or try and get out.
Cant even imagine what that blokes gone through.

That's an absolute fucking insult. How about putting your damaged pride to one side, and let the families of the victims get over their loss, which is CONSIDERABLY worse than yours? The timing of this statement is absolutely disgusting.

The arrogance of the man is staggering. Parasite.

I agree, what they wrote in the Sun wasn't Journalism it was vile and disgusting. Surely anybody with an ounce of decorum would stop and think before allowing that to have gone into print. He seems to dig himself even bigger holes when he should just disappear quietly. I hope those families go for the jugular and don't accept a pay off bribe.

Yep - I don't believe he was 'duped' for one moment, and I'm sure he knows he wasn't. If he's that comfortable to print damaging lies, I'm sure he won't think twice about spouting some more to try and save his bacon.

The role of the police & specific individuals is going to be looked at...

The IPCC police watchdog and director of public prosecutions have announced they will both launch inquiries into possible crimes committed by police.

The IPCC said both serving and former officers would be investigated over the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans in 1989.

Jury found fans were unlawfully killed and their behaviour did not contribute towards the tragedy.
