Yep whatever the timelines, we wanted him, could have had him, could afford him, it was just really poor management which has been a feature of Wolves hierarchy for at least 3 years.

I can totally buy that we left an agent in the dark about no longer being interested in/able to go through with a mooted deal as well, and then this version of the story gets leaked out from that.

We'd been linked with him for a few windows in a row iirc, so presumably conversations had been had at some point about it before the window in question.

It’s all well and good to give Shi a proverbial fist to the jaw, but you cannot, cannot look at Gyökeres’ record in Lisbon and logically conclude that he’d be anywhere near that form in the PL and certainly not in this team.

Even if he moves to the Prem later and burns the joint down, it may only ever be because he had the chance to improve so much at Sporting. Nothing about his time at Coventry suggested he had these sorts of stats in him.
