General Wolves News

Steve Davis has been offered a role to look after the Academy. A kind of Director of Football for that level.

Slowly chipping away at things Scott Sellars does since JL arrived. All he will have left soon is doodling on a tactics board.
Pleased with that. He has done a good job at youth level and clearly loves the club and his job.

I wonder if that was part of JL's Ts&Cs. Surprised at 'sacked' rather than 'redundant', though. Usually that's used of dismissal for transgression rather than mere incompetence.

It's Wayne, he'll be making the language up if not the story. I'd say it's bullshit like every other of his stories, but it's very specific and niche so probably something in it I suppose

I wanna see a Goodfellas style montage with all the dross being taken out of the club by JL and his team

It’s fairly bleeding obvious who will be getting the old Sellars role.

What we need is old Jeff (Dalrymple days) back rather than the man surrounding himself with yes man and a complete inability to delegate.

It's been said on here that the Chinese don't admit failure. But this says they have failed, and one of the root causes is binned. I don't think Shi will go at all. But now at least we have someone in the technical director role that has a CV of being one. It says to me they have had a very hard look at what has gone wrong, and are trying to put it right.

For his faults, Jeff can be brutal. Realised Walter was a mistake...gone. realised Lambert was limited...gone.

Just had lost his way with his power grab mentality since then. Hopefully back facing the right way now.
Agreed. I think sitting rock bottom of the PL was a big enough kick to the gonads that was needed to force them into action.
Who knew that the changes JL said in his interview would start so positively. And what is good to see is he didn't need much time to figure it out..

It feels a bit more like the Nuno days where we're surrounded by people JL trusts and has employed, rather than round-pegging a square hole with a head coach who has to fit in with employees. We also seem to have a much bigger coaching setup, which is great.

The obvious risk is when JL inevitably leaves we're back to square one a little bit, but hopefully that won't be for another 3-4 years.

Can't help feeling Sellars is something of a fall guy for Jeff Shi's failings. Problem is we'll never know exactly how the decision making structure operated and quite what he can be blamed for. Certainly not the ridiculous idea that it was him secretly calling the shots behind Steve Davis' back. In his interview Saiss suggested that Sellars didn't want him to go and that it was Shi effectively forcing him out. If he was merely the one who implemented decisions Shi made then he's tarred by association I suppose. It does appear to let Jeff off the hook though.

A technicality, but I think that they can't make him 'redundant'. It's the role that becomes redundant (no longer exists), not the person and if Wolves immediately appointed a replacement 'Technical Director' there could be a case for unfair dismissal.
