General Wolves News

Since we must proclaim it at every opportunity - I have been vegan for 37 years ( and veggie for 6 years before that).

Respect! I can't imagine how difficult it must have been ten years ago, much less forty.

Moved to TX 15 years ago, thinking it would be almost impossible, but grocery stores had many more options than I expected, wife was already vegan, and there was a thriving vegan society. Nowadays there are lots of veggie/vegan restaurants even in SA.

That's amazing. My wife is veggie and found it practically impossible going on holiday in the US in 2000, lived on Margarita pizzas and bland salads, even fries were cooked in beef fat

I've been on a deep fried haggis and chips diet for 30 years. Thoroughly recommend it.

For 15+ years in Wolves I met no other vegans at all and lived mostly on chips and baked beans. Wolves vegan group started up around 2000 and made it more enjoyable.

Mexican restaurants were the biggest problem - rice and beans usually contain chicken or bacon stock.

Vegan Haggis is surely just a carrier bag stuffed with vegetables.

to be fair the vegetarian/vegan options have been expanded most everywhere versus 20 years ago.

not sure where you were going that fries were cooked in beef fat, though I'd like to try it. most places are pretty standard, using something like canola.

Pretty sure Five Guys does something like that with their fries.

Five guys is peanut oil isn't it?

Best chips I’ve ever had are cooked in beef dripping at the Black Country museum over here.

McDonald's did back then

Maybe in the UK, or maybe they changed over everywhere. I'm almost certain they used to use beef fat, but I haven't set foot in a Five Guys in ages. Too expensive.
