General Wolves News

Just had an email from the club saying effectively we know we charged you a fortune to renew your membership but you have no chance of a ticket in the foreseeable future so here's a £10 off code to use online.

I only really renewed to keep my points up anyway and didn't expect to be making any games soon so I'll gladly take the £10 voucher (and the free wooly hat and lucky socks whenever my pack finally turns up).

All Or Nothing Ep7 is well worth a watch. It features 10 mins on our 3-2 win at Spurs, with dressing room aftermath.

(18min 50s for our bit)

Just watched that bit. No surprise from Alli there really, that’s pretty much how I expected him to be.

Ah, good to know. I didn't think they'd show much of it after they featured the home game so heavily.

I'm quite surprised by that - he really looked good when he first came into the side, but then the endless loan moves didn't look good.

me too. think there is some talent there, and a 4 year deal is a surprise.

about whether Wolves need more cash during the pandemic

"We'd assess the actual needs of the club on the basis of facts, but they've told me they're very strong in terms of funds. They don't need additional investment from us."
And: "(Wolves is) an investment to enhance governance. Everything is considered from a business perspective...but I've become passionate about soccer. I'd never woken up at 3am to watch a soccer game...but now I will wake up at 3am for a (Wolves) game and go back to bed at 5am.

I don't know... Our owner watching dodgy feeds as the Premier League isn't televised in China :icon_lol:

But what about all the articles written predicting the demise of wolves / premier league / the world as we know it without Chinese money?

A 4 year deal has to mean that they rate him and believe that he can only get better . Regular first team football helps , but I was hoping for a higher level than Grasshoppers .
He is a bit light and of small stature , but so are others who never let it stop them .

I've always liked him and would love to see him get a chance next season , with hopefully a successful loan spell behind him in Switzerland .

It would be nice to think that he could still come back and play for us at some time in the future but I personally think that the 4 year deal is to ensure that we get a fee from somewhere else as he will have a value. Didn't it get stated that we were looking at making supplementary income from trading players that we are unlikely to use at first team level?

I expect that this is the case and shrewd business from the club if they believe he has a sale value. I like the fact that the academy is expected to pay for itself, even if it doesn't provide us with first team players as the higher we go/have gone, the harder the latter gets. The deal also provides Ronan with some security and should allow him/his agent to negotiate a decent contract with any buying club.

Yes , sounds reasonable . However I'd love to see us bringing a player or two through from the academy and make the first team on a regular basis . Would be a real boost to the academy .

Absolutely, I just know it's very, very difficult to do this now.

I read, I'm not sure where, an article comparing the relative goals of Man City's academy and Mansfield Town's. Mansfield had a goal to produce three players who would make first team appearances from every age group and City had an aim of producing one first team player every five years/age groups. I assume both were to pay for the relative cost of running the academy.

Yeah the role of the academy is vastly different now to what it was even a few years ago. Our team is so good that it would take a one off talent to break into the team. It's now being run as it's own business which will make the academy self funding, maybe make the club money and hopefully produce a player for the first team once in a while but it will be very difficult for that to be a regular thing now.
