General Wolves News

Contactless worked fine in the BWU if it's any consolation.

It’s not the payment system thats the problem. It’s everything else. No point being able to take 1 second to pay for something when it’s taken you over a minute to serve 1 customer in a 15 minute break.

Same old, same old, clueless staff and not enough stuff. Paid for an Oasis before the game, they'd run out, asked for a water instead, run out, asked for my money back, couldn't do it as cashless. Kid looked lost as to what to do. In the end had to go back at half time for one which they'd fetched from another stand
Unless the rules are different in the UK than here, cashless tills are absolutely capable of refunds.

Of course they can do refunds here. Just poorly trained staff in this instance.

The staff are a joke tbf.

Last night it was a mixture of the same old slow fuckers from last season and a couple of new kids who had clearly been thrown in at the deep end and had no idea what to do. One girl behind the bar upstairs in the South Bank looked like she was going to burst into tears.

That's the problem and always has been. It's always someones first day as who the hell would come back for a second? As a teenage kid earning I'm guessing £6.60 an hour it must be a harrowing experience, you wouldn't come back again, so the next game is another set of young kids. Wash, rinse, repeat

Have you ever considered that these staff have to deal with for very little money. You're never going to get decent staff, and most of them are young people, probably scared to death half of them, we have some proper dickhead fans, they must get dog shit abuse.

Yes, I pointed that out, but neither she nor the supervisor knew how to, which is why the latter went to another stand to get the drink for half time

Catering staff for events is a nightmare, most of it is done through agencies, they could be doing silver service one day down Dunstall then battling with several thousand football fans the next.

Its shit work, and shitter terms. Of course you will have your regulars or direct employed but they would likely be only slightly better trained.

My lad did it for a couple of months for the agency who look after the Cardiff City, Principality & Liberty Stadiums. Did 4 football games and a few concerts. Moved on now as he has a job at IKEA whilst at Uni.

Essentially shown how to work the till for 5 mins then left on his own to work the rest out. They would have 1 supervisor split over all the bars in that stand, so something went wrong you had to hope they were at yours at the time.

I saw a sign saying they’d scrapped cashless in the South Bank for the game as I was walking in.

Big fan of the rail seating btw. So much better.

I wouldn’t say the individual staff are the problem (well they aren’t great, but its the organisation and system rather than ability, you don’t need ability to pour a drink and press a few buttons on the till).

When I was 16-21 and doing similar jobs, I was doing it purely for some money whilst at school, college and uni. Minimum wage was solid pay for zero stress.

There literally isn’t anything complicated, press the name of the food/drink on the till, if you press the wrong one press delete. Then to pay someone just taps a card/phone on a machine and it’s done.

The issue is they don’t have enough people and the limited people they do have they don’t organise. All fighting over a Carling tap so standing waiting, then waiting for it to pour.

They simply need to either work in pairs, one runner one server. And or/ have some one continuously pouring pints 5 minutes before half time. They serve double the people in half the time.

It’s not rocket science. I don’t get it.

You would think the company now controlling this would be a bit more switched on considering the teams/stadiums they cover.

Well even shit hole stadiums not fit for purpose serve you better at away games (where demand for drinks is higher). Goodison park away end is a shambles but got a drink before and during HT no problem (relatively).

I rarely get a drink in the stadium, but the odd time I want one I can’t. It’s a farce. Probably thousands of people in the same boat across the stadium which is so much lost income. Bizarre

I don't get why so many people need to neck a beer during half time anyway.

While trying to fight my way through the bar crowds in the Steve Bull to get to the toilet, I went passed one guy who had clearly gone down early just so he could get a beer and he was holding a bottle of Carling shouting '£4.40 for this fucking shit! It's like fucking vinegar!' Well, just drink before and/or after the match and have a decent pint instead!

From what I saw, waiting for beers to be poured wasn't an issue. The taps they have seem to be some kind of fast pour system and a pint is filled within seconds. The only delay I had whilst waiting pre-match was the girl serving our queue had to go get a pie from somewhere which took about 3 minutes, and some grumpy old fucker arguing the toss because he wanted to pay with cash!

The speed in the BW Upper at half time wasn't the issue. It was the fact that everyone was slowly cooking in that queue. Fucking hell, it was hellish in there. I was hotter than the steak and ale pie I ate. In terms of service/speed, no problem where I was at all. Seemed faster with cashless.

I wouldn't have needed to get anything in the ground if I would have arrived on time for the usual pre-match snack in the pub. Or even 2 hours late...

Was nice and cool in the BW lower, great that we had a massive heat sink above ;)

Had a drink in the ground pre-match as we left the pub early (genuinely was getting way too hot in there to the point of being uninhabitable). Definitely some training issues, I paid contactless but there was a sizeable queue as it seems they hadn't adapted at all to a new system.

I did get a bonus bottle of Coke first half because *someone* doesn't listen to what I say and stand where I tell them to...
