General Wolves News

Perhaps the club should offer 100% back on returned tickets…

I think it's been leaked to gauge reaction. Tbh it doesn't bother me, but knowing how it will others then it shouldn't happen.

I'm not sure it's that big a deal. Christmas Eve isn't really a thing in the UK. Loads of non-retail staff work as normal if it falls in the week.
But it’s not midweek and loads of people will have planned to travel to family/friends for Christmas Day. They could have made a decision back in July!

If it's a 1pm kick off then you can do what you like from 3pm onwards?

By the same token it is a Sunday so you run the risk of a game being moved to a Sunday for TV anyway.

Doesn’t really affect me whether the game is on the Saturday or the Sunday. Wife will moan that it will ruin Christmas Eve no doubt, but she moans that football ruins everything anyway and guessing it won’t ruin Boxing Day instead so swings and roundabouts.

Personally don’t have issue with it, obviously if you’re travelling distances I can understand people being unhappy with it.

Xmas Eve is a combo of last minute shopping , chilling out or preparing the food for the next day. I know a lot of countries in the med see Xmas Eve as the bigger day.

It's the bigger day in Germany too. But this isn't Germany.

I suppose you're asking the wrong guy as I can walk to the ground and I'd happily hoy plenty of elements of Christmas in the bin. I can't buy that it's going to wreck a special day though or that it'll irretrievably ruin travel plans.

We accept Boxing Day/New Year's Day games readily and we all know there's no public transport on those days so not having that angle either.

I've missed games in the past because they were on Boxing Day and there were no trains. Bloody stupid having games on then, tradition or no. Christmas Eve wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

A statement from Wolves 1877 Supporters Trust also strongly condemned the idea. “This potential scheduling once again shows a complete lack of consideration and respect for fans, especially Wolves fans who travel from further afield, and of course visiting Chelsea supporters,” it said. “We also feel that this is unfair on club staff, especially those with young children, who will have planned to spend Christmas with their families. We urge the Premier League to consider this decision very carefully before making an announcement.”

I have never once heard anyone say "I want to spend Christmas Eve with my family".

Doesn’t bother me but my lad has young kids and they will already have plans for Xmas Eve.
And I get it, that's a pain.

But no more so than any random individual fan could point to you on any other game that moves. It was a pain for me that Liverpool got moved to lunchtime as originally my plan was to go pub->game->pub->Dexys, whereas this way I had to go home in between.

Christmas Eve isn't universally sacrosanct is the point, it's a working day.

I do :(

We always have a few beers with friends and family at lunch time then go to see Xmas lights before dinner at home. Been a nice tradition for us since kids have been around.

Still great that the armchair fans get to watch football on sky.

I get you on the latter point, people acting entitled that they have the right to watch everything ever annoys me.

But that's just your tradition, isn't it. Christmas Eve isn't set aside, as I say I've worked tons of them. It's not a public holiday. If I had a tradition where on my birthday all my friends and family came over and watched 90s VHS season reviews of Wolves with me* then I couldn't very well get in a huff if Wolves also happened to have a fixture moved to April 11, could I?

*They don't. But they should
