General Wolves News

The point is that there is more to his game, especially positionally and mentally. Yet those are often superseded by his physical attributes when commentators describe him (this, unfortunately, has to remain anecdotal as there won't be any research out there specific to our Boubacar). And this is part of a statistically significant pattern (see the research I linked) in which non-white ("darker skinned", to use the terminology of that article) players are often described in terms which minimize their mental skills whilst maximizing their physical ones.

If you've heard more praise shown to his mental attributes than just his physical ones, fair play to those talking heads.

The research is entirely correct - it’s totally obvious to anyone who listens to commentary with it in mind.

It doesn’t change the fact though that Boubacar is in a similar mould to Viera - who was a very clever player.

My whole point here is that I wish professional commentators (people who are literally paid to describe football and footballers in an engaging way) would talk up that cleverness more often.

And it gets me so riled up because it's not just about Bouba but about non-white players at large, IMO.

Commentators are generally self-obsessed arrogant cunts. Start from that PoV and you'll be less dissapointed.

😂

It's a fair point, but I worry that, given the platform they have, it is not so difficult for the ideas they espouse to become societal defaults. IMV they have a responsibility to avoid the trap of thinly veiled racial determinism because what they say reaches so many ears.

This is not to say that any commentators who do fall into that trap are themselves racially bigoted.

Definitely unconscious, I agree with you there.

Got tickets in the ballot for Villa away, so a positive Vinny post from me, for opening up a few spaces for those who can't normally get away tickets this season

Pleased to know someone gets them randomly. I've been in every away game draw so far and haven't got any yet. Unsuccessful Villa email just arrived. On a positive note, because I got Palace away tickets and home cup tickets, I've got FA Cup tickets for Liverpool.

The Ireland hat is class, too.

These mysterious groin issues keep cropping up.

Isn't his loan to buy option dependent on appearances?

The stuff last week was loan with an option but certain amount of appearances trigger a clause where we have to buy him.
