Favourite Wolves game(s)

Cannot believe I have not put this one in having been there

1974 League Cup win 2 - 1 v the stars of Man City (Rodney Marsh, Dennis Law, Frannie Lee, Colin Bell Mike Summerbee etc.)

Hibbitt & Richards scoring for us.

Beating Forest in League Cup Final - they were a great team then - a real surprise for us to win the cup.

Spooky - we must have posted about the 74 and 80 wins simultaneously.

My Ma never went again after the 1980 League Cup final - probably a wise move!

Used to go all the time with my Granda and my Auntie.

I would say the Torino game felt a bit surreal. Sure, Crusaders and Pyunik were European ties but you knew we were going to win. This was a proper game. That was close to making my final cut.

Wish I'd been able to make that or Besiktas/Espanyol away but finances didn't allow for it at the time.

Wolves 3-1 Middlesbrough AET 1981 FA Cup Quarter Final Replay. Over 41000 under the lights. The days when kids would be passed over the turnstiles for free entry. When my dad says now “remember all those times I took you and your brother to watch Wolves” - I think I recall him only paying a couple of times!

Exeter 1-3 Wolves 1987(?) A bank holiday Monday early kick off. First away fixture without my dad and the first time I saw Bully score. Crowd behaviour was certainly an eye opener!

Wolves 3-2 Birmingham - As mentioned by others

Wolves 4-3 Leicester - the Dickhead what’s the score fixture.

Leicester 2-0 Wolves. A strange one to pick but I’ve selected it as we played them off the park for 20 minutes with some cracking football. I think it was the first time in my adult life that I knew that we weren’t in the Premier League to make up the numbers - we could actually compete. The next 2 years were the best time in my lifetime to be a Wolves fan.

My first season was wicked.

Wolves 6-0 Preston
Wolves 6-2 Mansfield
Wolves 5-2 Fulham
Wolves 4-1 Huddersfield
Wolves 4-0 Bury
Wolves 3-3 Port Vale

Went to all of those. I thought football was a very simple game where we just scored loads all the time. I was wrong.

As so many have mentioned it (and rightly so) the goal is at 8 minutes, but after check out just after 17 minutes the footballing genius that was Mark Rankine, how that man never won more POTS I will never know :)

Man Utd at home in the quarter finals probably tops it for me.

even though I was in the home end, espanyol away was great fun. Bristol city away for the scenes was fantastic to be at too. No doubt Nuno has given me my best moments in terms of attending (though I did get to do some key ones in league 1 - if there truly were any..)

This is a great thread, but fuck me it makes me feel old.
The 74 league Cup final still hurts...couldn't get a ticket

1971 Wolves 5 v 1 Arsenal (Wolves were the best team in the world for 25 minutes)
1972 Wolves 2 v 1 Leeds Utd (the atmosphere was electric and the ground was rocking from start to finish)
1968 Wolves 6 v 1 Nottingham Forest (my first ever game at Molineux)
1972 Wolves 2 v 1 Ferencvaros (UEFA Cup semi 2nd leg - reaching the final)
1972 Wolves 2 v 1 Juventus (UEFA Cup quarter final 2nd leg)

The 1971-72 season will live with me forever.

Honourable mentions:
1969 Wolves 3 v 3 Nottingham Forest (Peter Knowles last game)
1972 Wolves 1 v 2 Tottenham Hotspur (UEFA Cup Final 1st leg - Martin Chivers broke my heart)
1973 Wolves 2 v 0 Coventry City (FA Cup quarter final - funniest incident I ever saw at a live game, also my last game at Molineux)
1971 Wolves 0 v 1 Hearts (Texaco Cup Final 2nd leg - we won a trophy)
1971 Wolves 1 v 0 Burnley (qualifying for Europe)

Beating Rochdale away in 1987-88. I remember the score being 4-2. It was the only time I got to see Steve Bull play. I'm pretty sure that it was the last time I got to see the Wolves.

Has to be the game V the Scummers back in the early Mick days.

Lost 0-6 but cheered them off - Doubt many of you were there but those that were would know.

Thought we gave Teddy Sheringham a good send off - proud of that.

Difficult - every Wolves game for me is favourite. Get hammered each week still clap them out next time.

It'd a toughie, I'm going to have to include a few I wasn't there for aswell. I think a counter thread of 5 worst Wolves games would be just as difficult. These may not be Wolves top 5 games but some of these were an emotional touch to them.

Wolves 2 Blackburn 3 c1990 - an odd game to include but my first one, I'd been pestering my dad for a while to take me and he reluctantly agreed, although he likes football he's never been keen to go. I was sat seemingly a mile away from the pitch, I watched an aging Frank Stapleton scored a hatrick, we'd gone 2 down to get back on level terms to chuck it away. I was transfixed though!

Wolves 3 Millwall 1 - a Mark Burke masterclass, the last game in the SB and a memorable visit to the game with my brother and his mates. I also remember getting on central news celebrating and having to hide it from my mum as I'd told her I never went in there.

Wolves 3 Sheffield U 0 - play offs final and only game on my list I wasn't at. I was working away alot and struggled to follow us much beyond catching up on the results. As it was all over by half time it was a nice experience to enjoy celebrating the game, was a crazy day/night.

Wolves 5 Forest 1 2008 - wow, this felt like the real deal, just pure brilliant. Mick was great timing for me and his team helped me give me an interest and distraction to help get my life back on track. Was it 4-1 against Wednesday the week before? Then the demolition of Bristol City and Mcindoe the twat, it was a great start to a season.

Wolves 3 Arsenal 1 2019 - for some reason I'd always hated arsenal, not 100% sure why. Even when they were great to watch I had an irrational dislike of them. This was further fueled by our battles with them under Mick and after a couple of close results in our first season this game was just glorious, we won at an absolute cruise.

its tough not to include the UEFA games which were amazing and so lucky to have gone to all the home games, also many games in Nunos championship season, that Villa at home game I knew we were going up, Jota looked a class above anything I'd ever seen and I'm positive that Neves nearly scored from the halfway line, Bristol away, Cardiff away, so so many classics

Anyone old enough to remember, Wolves 7 Chelsea 1 ? Yes it was about March 75, Willie Carrs home debut. And the Man of the Match...... Chelsea goalkeeper John Phillips. Yes we were absolutely awesome that day.
John McAlle had a 'goal' disallowed too IIRC.

Yep 71/72 cemented my Wolves addiction, had been going occasionally from about 69 but that Arsenal game in the snow really kicked me off....I'm off to the highlights.....again.

More memorable than favourite but I am going to mention…

Wolves 0-6 Southampton

We fucking battered them and everything they touched went in. But the crowd stayed with the team. You probably had to be there to appreciate it.
I instantly thought of that one when reading the thread title. The most amazing atmosphere I've ever been part of, but no-one who wasn't there would ever believe that.

League Cup final 1974- started me following Wolves
Play off final v Sheffield United- incredible day
League cup final 1980- David Needham lolz
Wolves 3 Arsenal 1 2019 for the exact reasons as Newbridge- irrational hatred of Arsenal
Wolves 2 Burnley 0 Sherpa van trophy.- Mark Kendall- 28 clean sheets that season. and I was privileged to know and work with him later.

I guess I got a real buzz out of seeing us win things. Its really difficult to pick other league games as , ultimately , they don't always mean as much. Steve Hunts goal meant a lot to keep us up. Jotas hattrick goal in the 4-3 win v Leicester was great at the time but didnt count for much. The 3-3 draw with Man City in 03/04 was another as we could not win away and were minutes from it. Its really difficult. On any other day I could cite other games, but the 5 I have chosen mean something for a reason.

3-2 against City in 2019 tops the list. That game had everything.
