FA Cup 5th Round Bristol City (A) 17.02.2019

Moutinho was quality today, was my MotM too

Moutinho was immense but Doherty was so fucking good in the first half. Proper 10/10. Defended solidly enough in the second, too.

Ruddy made a good save from a shot inside the 6yd box.

Yeah, and their goalkeeper has a volley right at the death. Plus they had a free header on the edge of the six yard box in the first half which their lad should have got on target as a minimum.

I’m not a fan of Johnson or Bristol City, but to say it wasn’t “tense” and we were “very comfortable” is a massive disservice to them.

We should have put that to bed in the first half, but didn't.

That was still close, which is what I expected - Bristol could have taken something from that today. A difficult draw that could have gone either way.

We got there so not sure anything else matters now.

Agreed. If the game was another few mins longer, I think Bristol would have scored. The momentum was with them, and they were creating chance after chance. We defended well, but Bristol looked dangerous and kept lumping crosses into the box which caused us to panic at times, Saiss was doin his nut after he blocked that header in the six yard box at the end.

Saiss bollocked Traore for trying to control the ball under pressure rather than bollock it forward or out of play.

I doubt an extra min or 2 would have seen Bristol score to be honest.

Good job Bristol couldn't finish their dinner or they would have had 4 that 2nd half.
Amazing how a little formation change can completely nullify that outlet to Doherty and why we constantly backed off & allowed them to cross the ball into the box I'll never know.

As it was, we still had the best chance of the 2nd half with JM who was awesome.

Their finishing showed the difference between the PL and the Championship. Balls pulled back to the edge of the box, wouldn't be continually spannered into the crowd in the PL.

I didn't agree with Nuno's tactic to sit on the 1-0, but it was successful so can't really complain. I'd have brought Traore on instead of MGW and given them something different to think about on the break.

I said exactly the same at the time of the first substitution and I won't knock Traore at the end as I'd have had him furthest forward rather than helping out on the edge of his area.

The E&S player ratings made me smile this morning - Kicking wasn't great but this was a confidence-boosting performance from Ruddy who will be eyeing up an unlikely fairytale in his most frustrating of campaigns. 7/10

It would appear that we need to stick either Coady or Neves in goal to please Tim II. I only recall one kick going astray in the 97 minutes.

...and that was out to Doherty on the wing ie our coached tactic

Tim seems to think unless we keep possession from a keepers kick or win the 2nd ball from it then the kick is shit

Ruddy had two in just over a minute go straight out, one to each wing. Apart from that he was fine.

Ruddy did well - some good claims when the ball was hurled into our box.

Anyone else pick up on the commentator saying ".....see, he's not very good at defending" (Jonny)

Absolute tit end. Thought he was decent until that.

We had it in the tie v Liverpool when we put Doc on to replace Jonny and Jenas said it was to tighten us up at the back.

It was Keown that said Johnny wasnt very good.
He did back off a lot in the 2nd half and allow crosses in & got easily brushed off a few time but in the 1st half he did some great attacking work several times yet the final ball was very poor.
Ruddy is far more comfortable having the ball played back to him than Rui is....thought Ruddy played well.

These continental types only know how to attack, ay?

Bristol were playing so high in the second half, even Traores mere presence would have made them think twice about playing such a high line
