FA Cup 4th Round

My Dad has just told me I was at the home draw against Chorley 🙋‍♂️

Why did a lot of teams play on Fridays back then? I assume it was they didn’t have to compete crowd wise with other big clubs nearby?
Yup.

Try and attract fans over to them as the big boys weren't playing

The amount of people who don’t realise the 3-0 defeat was a second replay. Beggars belief that they use to do that back then.

Yep. So Stockport avoiding clashes with City/United, Tranmere with Everton/Liverpool etc.

It sort of worked but I think the Football League stopped them doing it after a while for reasons best known to themselves.

We signed him for the first year in Div 2, so over 2 years after that Southend game
Just checked. The game when Westley marked Bull out of it, was 10/3/89, as jd1981 suggested. I stayed in London afterwards and went to Arsenal v Forest the next day [nerd alert], one of only three games they lost at home that season.
Westley signed for us soon after.

I've only ever known Tranmere do it and yes it was to try to boost gates so playing when Liverpool or Everton didn't.

Apparently Stockport did it to (mentioned on the telly last night) due to Utd/City.

Remember going to Tranmere one of my first away games when Bully got his 250th goal. Was late in the season and the point secured us a play off place.

Got quite moody in our end with fans fighting with police at the front so as I was a kid got moved to the stand to the side, their family stand and had loads of kids with Liverpool or Everton tops on around. Always found that weird, even as a kid, like support your team and fucking own it!

Pretty common at a lot of clubs. I used to go to Stockport/Oldham/Bury/Dale when I had nothing better to do. Loads of United tops around (not so much City then).

If you went to Wimbledon games in the 90s then you'd see Arsenal/Spurs/United tops everywhere.

Weirdly Brighton get a lot of Chelsea fans even now. No idea why.

Southampton are now playing Shrewsbury next Tuesday instead of their PL game against Leeds

Hopefully they can do a “virtual ticket” like Marine did. I’d buy one to say I was there!

All sorted SSB , been a brilliant response by both sets of supporters for there Virtual tickets . Setting up nicely for a virtual sell out👏🤞

We now have Southampton twice in a few days, midweek in the Cup at home and in the league at the weekend away
