While it was a shock, I don't think any of the fans that watched us at that time were overly surprised. I think I only missed three games [home and away] over several seasons around that time and I don't think, until the latter part of 86/87 I ever really expected anything other than defeat. That's why the rise back up the divisions was so memorable.
Our team, when we fell down the divisions and in 85/86 in particular, was assembled with players from a similar level to those playing for Chorley.
