FA Cup 4th Round

The criticism of Traore is somewhat OTT tonight he put in a few good runs, lay offs and crosses. I agree he is not good enough but tbf Costa was woeful I mean really wank, Cav was OKish but he scored, MGW was poor but he is young and will learn. Saiss was error strewn.
We made Shrewsbury look better than they were which was shit.
On the plus side we got away with playing a second rate front line and MGW in the midfield. I was surprised we didn't keep our new found successfull 2 up front.

That’s not true - watch from before the kick is taken, Costa is man marking the scorer. Saiss didn’t defend it well either though.

What’s he supposed to do? Run through Saiss? Foul? Saiss has to head that.

I think we saw the end of Costas wolves career tonight, I said to my old man when Costa went off that he was done.

Ruddy had two big things to do and did neither of them, he needs to be a busy keeper otherwise he makes silly errors. The first goal was partly him and partly Costa/Saiss. The second one was ridiculous.

MGW looks like he's trying too hard, when he kept it simple he looked effective, when he over played he tended to lose it
Nevertheless, a very busy performance with plenty to build on.

Cav isn't a back-to-goal central striker, he can't do it but that's not his game. Whether that impacted on Costa & Traore I'm not sure

Traore was electric but also shocking. He had their defence on toast and created lots of uncertainty, he didn't have anyone to cross too unfortunately. He also worked really hard to win possession back on numerous occasions, something Costa didn't do.

Back three imperious as was Saiss, wingbacks stretched the play and I thought Doc was going to bag a hat trick but alas no.

MOTM : Doc
Honourable mentions for Saiss and Boly

We dominated play and fully deserved the win

I thought Traore did well tonight beat his man time and again and put in some decent balls. Also thought MGW did well, definitely much better than his recent performances. Costa was terrible, felt a bit sorry for Cav as he didn't have his best game but it's not really his position and took his goal well again.

The corner was scored from he middle of the goal, 4 yards out. Same as the first leg. If the keeper isn’t coming for that, then when is he actually coming?

Let not even talk about the second...

Costa worst player by far, MGW not much better, Saiss below par (those 3 are why we struggled). Traore was alright but you’d expect that against poor opposition. Cav did better second half when we actually tried laying balls into feet rather than terrible clips over the top.

Job done, full strength against City. Saiss/Vinagre only changes at most

Just me that thought Saiss did well considering he was pretty much a one man midfield?

Block him from getting that far? That’s his job. I’m not defending Saiss either, he turned his back on It which is awful defending, but I don’t see how anyone can suggest Costa did his job there.

I think he did well untill half time and then misplaced a lot of passes but you have a point, MGW did not play well IMO. I think he was poor and yes that would of made Saiss' job harder.

Highlights on the BBC website. That shot Ruddy spooned in really looks like it would have gone wide

Having watched the highlights
Great touch from Boly for first and great determination from Traore to start the move for Cavs. And yeah Ruddy OG for me

Full normal league team for me v Bristol. It's a tough tie against an in form team.

I would be dropping Ruddy as he is simply out of game form. 3 of the 4 goals conceded v Shrewsbury are on him (amazing considering that only 2 of the goals were on target..) . I don't think we will play Rui but we should.

Only seen the goals, but MGW was involved in the build up for both our first 2 goals, is the criticism a bit over the top or was he really poor for the rest of the game? Not sure his future lies in CM.
Thought Traore's contribution for the 3rd was excellent too

Like so many other second choice keepers he's making mistakes not because he's massively inferior but because he's under cooked. A bit chicken and egg really. I think it depends on what Nuno has told him, if it's that he's the Cup keeper whatever then he should stick to his word, if not then first 11 all over the pitch

MGW was ok for me. He made some errors but generally then made up for them by winning the ball back. Our biggest issue was when Traore got the ball out wide no one made runs into the box to give him a proper target. At times our furthest forward player was Jonny. Cav needed to make runs into the box but he rarely did.

The game was an odd one. We weren't great but we weren't shit and I have seen a lot of comments that Shrewsbury caused us problems but that is bollocks. We essentially gave them 2 goals and outside of that I can think 3 times they could have threatened (counter attack they ballsed up, a Coady block from 16 yards out and a shot that drifted wide). They got a corner in the 93rd min that caused panic amongst the fans but it never worried us.

Oh and Sam Ricketts is a proper whiny manager. Might as well have sat next to the 4th official as he spent most of his time moaning at him.

Ref was good, let the game flow and seemed reluctant to give free kicks at times. We probably got away with a couple of challenges that should be yellow cards as well.

MGW was involved in a lot of what we did. I don't think he was poor but a few times he just needed to keep it simple. He needs to learn to be a CM if he's going to play there.

That said, if he'd sat like Saiss did we'd have looked very disjointed

The more times you look at their second goal the more it looks like it's going wide.

It was. Such a bizarre fuck up but fair play on the spin Ruddy got on the ball. Snooker trick shot skillz
