Ex-Wolf Watch

No it's you with an ability to change your opinion because of how we was performing about 9 years ago.

I also didn't like how he performed back then either.

Grudges are bad, especially if the person you hold a grudge against is better now.

It's not like Roger Johnson who never gave us a reason to stop hating him.

Doc has given us dozens of brilliant moments, for a jobbing WB who cost fuck all, in fact has earned us money overall. It's really fucking odd that you hate him so much!!!

On TWF it's not, in the wider Wolves community it probably is - not to EPs fan boi levels though. Fwiw I think he's been better since Vitor came in than you give him credit for, whilst also being an obvious need to upgrade. Kind of where I've been with him pretty much since the promotion season.
I have a perfectly "normal" view of Doc, I think? I certainly don't consider him a legend like on that podcast the other week.

He's been 6-8/10 consistently since VP came in.

I point out his positive moments because of the totally OTT TWF reflection of him. The desperation to pick out his poor moments.

Which I believe has come from years of people reading the almost daily hate for him from DW.

When someone says something enough times, it becomes the truth.

I'd say the 2 of you are one a par, just opposite ends of the spectrum. You posted that legend link in the same way Deutsch posted the defending for Ireland a few months ago - apologies to him if it was someone else. They are both loaded.

I call for the 4-4-2 a lot, but that’s nothing to do with it being a good idea. I just like it as a formation.

I think Toti could be okay there; I’d probably have him at LB and push Rayan forward but that’s another bit I’m in the minority on. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve said Toti is underrated on here.

I feel like I’ve seen Dan say he’d prefer 4ATB but can’t recall any specific mentions of the 4-4-2 except offhandedly. I’ve never got the impression that folks really want two banks of four. It’s out of fashion for a reason ay.

And FWIW, under GO we seemed to want to shift into 4-4-2 with possession. I’d say it didn’t pan out.

Agree that the TWF consensus has always been too strongly anti-Doc to me, the same was the case with Adama, but that's fine, if I disagree then I'll state my case (as you have done).

I don't think it's particularly due to DW's influence though, there have been some other strong personalities on here over the years who have held Doc in similar low regard, I agree it becomes a cultural thing though on a forum

Why am I held to this bloody standard, so I now need to watch every single minute Matt Doherty plays and then comment objectively on everything he does?

I don't like him. Never have, never will, I can acknowledge some good stuff he's done, I don't think he's very good now (cost us multiple goals in this new position, awful penalty to knock us out of the cup, etc etc), it was ridiculous to bring him back.

Just leave me alone FFS.

Doc has spent a big chunk of his Wolves careers being shite, not sure anyone thinks otherwise.
However for most of his time under Nuno he was good, at times very good.
Since Vitor has put him regularly at CB he's been mostly 6-10, couple of poor moments and a couple of good moments, especially compared to where we were previously with our CBs.

Under VP Doherty has largely been ok but as he demonstrated against Forest his lack of pace is a big problem. In a back five we’ve minimised his exposure so he’s generally been ok but I think he’s benefiting from being poor since his return to the club so people’s expectations of him are extremely low, so being ok gets him more credit than he deserves.

He's been moved to play regularly in a new position in a defence that conceded goals at an alarming rate, more than any other PL team at that time, who couldn't defend set pieces in an embarrassing fashion. He's also taken on a leadership role which you can see on the pitch. He was poor against Chelsea - although he scored, Forest and should have closed down Everton's goal quicker, but this type of comment giving grudging, if even that, praise is unfair. For where we were at and what we needed he's been decent, failing to acknowledge it is just confirmation bias.

We should aim that he only plays next season off the bench or in an injury crisis, but he deserves more credit than he gets as playing a significant role in us turning the season around

If we're talking favourite formation mine in modern times is 4-2-3-1. Though overall favourite would be the 3-2-3-2 my junior coach played us in, was fun playing in front of that back line.

The crime of having a well-respected opinion. For shame!

I like the idea of a 4-3-3 but it’s just so open these days. Or maybe Wolves have scarred me. Either way.
