You could go 4-4-fackin-2

----------------------Sa---------------------

Semedo/New RB---Agbadou---Toti-----Ait-Nouri

New RW---------André------J Gomes------New LW

----------------Strand Larsen---Raul---------------

Get some quality out wide (one proper Jarvis-style winger, one who drifts in and links up) and I don't hate it

Won't happen though

André must really be special to get his accent included over Raúl’s and Aït-Nouri’s. 😉

Gimme that 4-4-2, Vítor!

We could even do it now, to a degree:

Semedo - Agbadou - Toti - Aït-Nouri
R. Gomes - J. Gomes - André - Cunha
Bellegarde
Strand-Larsen

Won't happen though

Yeah, you'd have to buy 2 more strikers to back them up for a start and you'd have multiple squad members who'd serve absolutely no purpose in that system as well.

I could see us moving to a back 4 next season, Vítor has talked about André being better as a single pivot and I don't see how that works with a back 5. It'd have to be a 4-3-3 though.

How many times does Toti have to prove he can't play in a back 4 for people to stop suggesting he play in one? Yes, it was Gazball and everything that entailed, but he was an absolute bombscare there earlier this season as he has been when played there in the past.

We finally look like we have a team structure, discipline and a fair few round pegs in round holes.

And the call for 442 comes back. 🙈

Comes back?

I doubt I've said it was a possible formation since 2017.

What we have now isn't very sustainable, it has 33 year old Matt Doherty at centre half and generally at least one crap attacker forming part of the front three.

If I park my cynicism for a moment re recruitment, squad evolution wise it's a good time to implement whatever style/formation Vitor has in mind. For the first time in ages we have a centre half who I'd be confident would be comfortable in a 2 with question marks against a couple of others. Our RB/RWB is likely leaving, as is the player we currently give 80% of the attacking responsibility to. I'll be interested to see what his plan is. His career doesn't show him being wedded to a back 3, although he has used it before so I'm of the view it's something he's gone with based on personnel - fair play he was correct. No reason we couldn't move away from it if that's what he wants with the correct recruitment though, although I think 4231/433 is more likely than 442

Every few weeks/months you push for it, and other than for about 10 games under Lop it's not worked for us in the Premier League. 3/5 suits us a counter attacking mid table club

Doc is performing well in it as it stands (much as you absolutely hate and deny it), and Agbo and Toti are excellent in a 5, as we can see.

Plus Mosquera to come back, Hugo Bueno/RAN for LWB, *Semedo/Gomes/Lima at RWB.

What we have now is absolutely sustainable.

A back 5 of:

Gomes/Lima - Mosquera - Agbo - Toti - RAN/Bueno

Really appeals to me, rather than having to fund, trial and change to a 4 that comes with so much unnecessary risk and uncertainty.

Of course we have areas we need to improve, but we are starting from a far stronger position if it's with a 3/5 than going back to a 4.

*Semedo will leave, depending on what VP thinks of the young right sided WBs we'll attempt to replace him.

Go on then, I'll give you £10 right now if you can find any suggested line-up on this forum from me that is in a 4-4-2 shape, since 2018. Other than that spurious one above if we re-signed Raul, which we won't.

Good luck.

Doherty is not performing well, he's just about keeping his head above water around 60% of the time. He's not very good.

You've argued with me countless times about changing to 4 over the years, under Nuno, under GON, and you've just brought it up again and you have LITERALLY suggested a line up that is of a 442 shape!! :ROFLMAO:

Creating some odd game doesn't change that.

Doherty is objectively performing well, unfortunately you can't be objective about him because you have some really odd over the top confessed hatred for him.

You mention him in a negative way almost every day.

Frankly it's weird.

You said I continually call for 4-4-2, I quite obviously don't.

I'll happily say I don't want us locked into three CHs. It's so limiting (so few PL teams play it regularly and for good reason), doing it because "that's what we do" when we have completely different players to 6 years ago is ridiculous, and there should be no need to do it if we bother building a squad properly.

Matt Doherty is fucking shit, I'd say it's weirder that you white knight him constantly for no apparent reason. He was on a free when we signed him and no-one else wanted him, the same would apply if he were available for free now. He's a rubbish player.

I comment on Doherty to try and balance your obsessive OTT criticisms of him.

He scored the other day, it was a really good goal (akin to Bully v Villa, but Doc didn't get knocked out).

For someone who shoehorns comments about his performances into comments in here so often it was odd you didn't comment on it?

I didn't watch it?

I didn't realise I was contractually obliged to watch games I don't care about now.

You comment on absolutely everything you consider negative about Doherty, from his haircut to how he comes across in interviews or newspaper articles.

You've also spent a lot of time commenting on how he performs for Ireland, posted articles that criticise him etc.

But yeah, you're right. You not obliged to say when he does something positive.

OK, I don't particularly give a shit what he does for Ireland and I think he's terrible.

You think he's quite good.

Yes, it's me with the wild outlier opinion here.

On TWF it's not, in the wider Wolves community it probably is - not to EPs fan boi levels though. Fwiw I think he's been better since Vitor came in than you give him credit for, whilst also being an obvious need to look to upgrade. Kind of where I've been with him pretty much since the promotion season.
