We just couldn't afford Neilson could we? Really classy player he was. Played less than 10 games?

Kevin Keen in that group for me too.

Bought for 600k, scored 9 goals from midfield, then we sold him for 300k to Stoke.

Bizarre.
I worked with his sister in law, didn't like her so sorry he's collateral damage.

Technically he wouldn't quality as he was here over a year

Yeah, only joined in late March on the old transfer deadline day, played the rest of the season bar the final day at Port Vale.

We had no money to spend in the summer of 2000 until we sold Akinbiyi, we wouldn't let Colin Lee sign David Burrows or Paul Williams on frees (thank God) and initially blocked him from giving Sedgley and Scott Taylor new deals (as both got injured and never played again after November 2000, didn't work out well that we did)

Nielsen was one we would have tried to sign if we'd gone up in the playoffs. Was never happening once we didn't.

Still cost Watford a fair bit when he eventually moved there in summer 2001 and Vialli was spending their ITV Digital money.

Yep, great deal (we also got around £1m for effectively lending Emblen to Palace for 7-8 months)

Freedman was superb but fell out with Mr Cap and Shorts, was still scoring against us as late as 2006
Muscat was a knob and did a lot of stuff I would never defend, but was largely an excellent RB for us for five years, can't complain with that
It's possible my memory let's me down but I thought Muscat wasn't such a knob initially, more of a 'Stuart Pearce' type fullback but later let the 'hardman' image tarnish his reputation.

He did Matty Holmes in 98, so not really. He did become more of a pastiche of his reputation after he left Wolves at Millwall, Rangers and back in Oz.

Fair enough, it's probably my Wolves bias, rose-tinted specs.

I've had mates who support other teams say to me he was just a thug, like the cloggers you got in the 70s/80s who were genuinely just there to kick people, I tell them that isn't fair as he was a very good full back at our level and could have made some form of a PL career at his peak (he did play a handful of PL games for Palace). But he did go out of his way to be a knob and I would never defend it, I didn't at the time and certainly don't now.

Yeah it's a shame he was such a dick, he was so much better a footballer than the other cloggers of the time.

Without a doubt, so needless.

If we'd gone up in 2002 and he'd signed a new deal then he wouldn't have been one I'd have been desperate to replace, put it that way.

Him doing Bellamy right in front of me when I was in the North Bank lives in the memory.

His awful bs has carried on as a head coach but has managed to get jobs in Japan and China so seems to have worked out for him.

Why are you always snide about Neves?

Snide about a player who is throwing away his peak years playing glorified friendlies in a desert so some despicable people can throw around monopoly money and make themselves feel a bit better. Why might that be?
