These 3rd places are going to be a joke aren’t they.

Runner up of group A plays the runner up of B (Denmark, Finland, Russia), whereas England win their group and still play the runner up of France/Portugal/Germany.

With some of the groups being a free for all with all its going to be a bit of a mess picking the best 3rd places.

Yeah, 24 team tournaments simply don't work. Especially if you have H2H as the tiebreaker in the groups.

Northern Ireland knew in 2016 that having beaten Ukraine, playing for a 1-0 defeat vs Germany would almost certainly be good enough. So that's what they did.

Propagating a situation where you can actively set out to lose and still qualify is ridiculous.
