Euro 2016 watch

--------------------Hart

-Walker----Smalling--Stones---Clyne

--------------------Dier

--Lallana---------Alli------------Welbeck

-----------Vardy------Kane

That would be my team, but I think that Hodgson will pick Henderson and Rooney in his starting eleven.

...........................Hart
Clyne.......Smalling.......Stones.........Rose

..........Henderson............Alli

................Kane.............Welbeck

Forster, Heaton
Walker, Cahill, Bertrand
Wilshere, Barkley, Delph, Lallana
Sterling, Vardy, Sturridge

Clyne----Smalling----Stones-------Bertrand

-------------------Dier-----------------------

--------Henderson---Barkley---------------

-------------------Alli------------------------

--------------Rooney----Kane--------------

Is what I think Roy is leaning towards at the moment. Cahill for Stones possible, Rose for Bertrand if Shaw isn't fit.

If Sterling is fit to start the tournament maybe a 4-3-3

I suspect Rose started both games at left back because Woy wanted to have a proper look at him (made easier by Bertrand being injured). I fully expect Shaw to be included at Rose's expense if he can get himself back before the end of the season.

As for RB, Clyne has the shirt. Before tonight I was unsure on Walker making the final cut because it's a position we can afford to take one player in, given others (Dier, Stones) can cover there. That said, Walker looked good tonight and that's a big decision for Roy to make - because if he takes four full backs, he'll have to leave one of the forwards at home.

On the evidence of the last two games, that would be Sturridge.

Lot of good players going to miss out on this squad.

I think I am definitely leaning toward the correct decision being Sturridge having a summer off. He just isn't showing a great deal at all.

Shaw proving himself fully fit would be fantastic news for the squad.

A bit dull game with a lot of sideway/back passing..
I would play these at the euros:

------------------Hart-------------------
Walker----Stones----Smalling----Bertrand
------------Dier----Alli----Barkley-------
-------Vardy------Kane-------Welbeck

Not too concerned by the loss as that was largely a B team after the other night.

I have always been unconvinced by Sturridge for England and that's been underlined tonight, I'm not up for taking him at all. He doesn't apply himself well enough, he doesn't press which was a key element of the win in Berlin, there's no way he's playing that many games in a row inside three weeks and if the team isn't set up around him then he isn't enough of a threat, he didn't really have a sniff of goal tonight but when he does his finishing in an England shirt has also been extremely uneven. Rooney should no longer be guaranteed a start but he offers more in terms of link play and does have more of a knack of scoring at this level.

Rose undid all his good work from Saturday, bar 10-15 minutes before half time he was a liability all night. He's fortunate Gibbs isn't getting a game for Arsenal.

--------------------Hart----------------

Clyne--------Smalling---Stones----Shaw (Bertrand)

---------Alli-----Dier---Wilshere (Barkley)----

---------Vardy----Kane-----Welbeck-----------

Yeah Sturridge wasnt really interested it seemed..he did just a few good things and came deep to pick a safe pass..jumped over the ball for lallana on the goal. He doesnt switch pace too often nowadays..

--------------------Hart----------------

Clyne--------Smalling---Stones----Shaw (Bertrand)

---------Alli-----Dier---Wilshere (Barkley)----

---------Vardy----Kane-----Welbeck-----------

That's what I'd go for as well, except Lallana seems more trusted than Barkley (can't really include Wilshere until he's played some football this year).

If Wilshire gets fit would play him over Henderoson
If Shaw gets fit would play him over Bertrand

Smalling is 26 and has played plenty of Champions League football, there's no way you could class him as inexperienced.

Meant Tournament experience mate....

Don't think we can go in with 26 year old and 21 year central defence in there first tournaments as starters.
Leaving Rooney as the only international experienced outfield player.

Would Not mind if did, just think we need an older head, Smalling and Stones for me are the best we have with the ball.

Theres a reasonable case for modeling the England side on the same principles as Pochettino has installed at Spurs if the key dynamics through midfield plus striker are the same. In that respect who is the natural clone for Christian Eriksen, I would think Jack Wilshere fits the profile.
If its tried and tested in Tottenham it makes sense to replicate the theory.

I think last night shows how importer experience is in the team.

I doubt there will be 3/4 of the population not starting Rooney now.

I'd have Wilshere next to Dier if he's fit - which I highly doubt.

Dembele makes the Spurs system by being comfortable to take the ball in tight spaces and being able to beat a man from deep opening up space for the more advanced midfielder.

Jack's not as strong but can beat a man and can win the ball back.

Cahill's tournament experience extends to three games at the last World Cup (Smalling started one of them), I just don't see that as a valid reason to retain an inferior player who's looked all at sea for the entire season.

Another consideration at centre back is speed especially if you want Stones to be striding forward into midfield. Smalling seems better equipped for any potential one on one situations and his powers of recovery.
