Honestly Fred, the real culprit here is bad planning by the French authorities.

There's bad blood between England and the locals that goes back to 1998 so Marseille should really have been the last place to hold this match.

England fans have been left to get themselves pissed up in the town centre since this morning. That's never a good idea.

There were hardly any police around the Vieux Port and it took them ages to react to things kicking off.

I wouldn't ever condone England fans for the way they're behaving, but it's no surprise to me and could easily have been avoided by changing the venue, the kickoff time and banning alcohol sales.

Not just tonight...even the bbc reported some mad tactical shite by the Russians earlier on.
These ain't ya fat bellied tattooed drunk engerland types,these are big fooking blokes who go beyond the posturing and running back and forth like ya typical nowadays English stuff.
Some truly horrible videos online,one were a bloke who's clearly been shopping gets knocked straight out with one punch from behind.
Have read that Russians and French have joined up quite a few times too.

Because 30-40 years ago we were the nation who went around Europe and our own country kicking off and pretty much invented Hooliganism in this guise.

Although the reputation we got from this was well earnt we are now victims of it and targeted which is what is happening in Marseilles now. Now, a lot out there won't be running from trouble if they are confronted by it and no doubt there will be a few that are going way over the top. However apart from Oliver Holt who as a Daily Mail writer has to follow the narrative his Editorship tells him to, pretty much every reporter out there has said that on the last 3 days it has been the English who were set upon by either the French or Russians.

As you said on the other thread Norman, Russia will host the World Cup in two years, while we have 50 or so fat forty somethings looking for one last hurrah I heard on the radio this morning that there were upwards of two hundred Russian fans all dressed in the same black t shirts with the same slogan.
The 2018 World Cup will be a disaster.

Its hard to believe the French authorities were not aware of the Moscow ultras from both clubs wouldn't be planning such actions. Its as though they just don't care about the innocent women and children that get caught in the crossfire.
Security should be far better than that, there were lessons to be learned after Tunisia 98.

More likely there will be 50 odd normal fans who go out to get drunk and watch the football, end up getting attacked, defend themselves and then get blamed for fighting.

I've got mates over there at the minute who have been caught up in it. They're not he sort of lads who go looking for trouble, but are more than capable of looking after themselves and they reckon they've been targeted for the last 2 days by locals and Russians.
