Coronavirus

Vaccinations available for all Texas adults as of this week. Plenty of openings and wife's relatives all managed to get their 1st shot already.

It’s over, everything should be back to normal.

If I was unvaccinated I’d still want to have it purely as I don’t want to potentially lose my taste forever (or even a year like it has been for some so far), even if there is literally no need from a risk of dying/hospitalisation perspective.

The true efficacy of the vaccines only time will tell, but as 70% for the flu vaccine is considered a good result then I guess that is the barometer we will have to use.

If John the 25 year old doesn’t want the vaccine, he shouldn’t be forced to have it. He shouldn’t need a passport to allow him to live his life. Him having it and and spreading it will have no effect on the vulnerable as they will have been vaccinated and as a result the NHS will be no different to usual.

If the vaccines aren’t effective (there’s going to be like 4 in circulation) then the chances are any new ones will be no different, in which case we will sadly be relying on evolution to overcome it as we cannot live this last year forever.

The leader of Norfolk council on Newsnight just stated that the £500 payment for people with Covid to get them to isolate was difficult to claim because....

We don’t want to incentivise people to go out and catch the disease.

Just saw that....he's obviously a cunt

So I wake up this morning to discover I'm agreeing with Johnson on vaccination passports. Fuck sake.

My guess is John will have to enjoy his UK holidays then

I wasn’t really referring to international travel. Having to provide a negative test in a queue in at an airport for an activity you do likely once a year and is not too different to queuing for ages for normal “passport control”, is not a big deal. You would also be likely travelling to a country who’s Covid landscape is somewhat different to ours (I.e not under control), But then they probably wouldn’t be letting people in anyway.

If a negative test wasn’t sufficient and a vaccine was a requirement, then that’s a bit silly as this summer he probably wouldn’t have had access to it and next year it will be an irrelevance.

So this summer it’s either no one goes or simply a negative test is sufficient.

I think vaccine passports will open things up quicker than not having them. However, this would obviously be only for people who have been vaccinated!

I don't agree with vaccine passports, at least internally. It's fundamentally unfair. Also, there is no point bringing in vaccine passports once everyone has had the chance to be vaccinated because we won't need them!

The only scenario I think they could help is if the lower age groups decide they don't want the vaccine in enough numbers to cause issues

The latter paragraph above is the key. The threat of vaccine passports is hopefully going to help the stupid fuckers make their minds up.

It’s unfair if you haven’t been offered the vaccine. If everyone has and it is a choice not to take it then the choice has consequences.

However what about kids? Under 18s aren’t going to be offered this so families travelling (or indeed using a restaurant say) with children won’t have everyone with a vaccine passport.

Kids are easily solved, can’t expect them to have a passport if a vaccine is not available. Just make them exempt.

Kids won't have to be signed in to pubs, which as it stands everyone else will have to be, so they'd be exempt from any vaccine passport.

It's balls anyway. If we're sticking with September/October restrictions for a while, which seems to be the case - rule of 6, table service only, masks on when you need to leave the table (which is essentially toilet use only), bookings generally required with normally a two hour slot, contactless/app payment where possible - there is bugger all risk anyway.

If you're unvaccinated and at risk, don't go to the pub then.

Agree with this - last went in one in September (& hadn't been vaccinated then) perfectly safe with tables removed so that there was distancing.

Weren't doing table service then, but screens all over the bar apart from a small aperture where they put the drinks through & contactless payment.

That pub has a decent outside area with full cover over it so hopefully to be able to meet someone down there after April 12th

I've got belated birthday drinks (outdoors) after the Sheff U game in a couple of weeks with my Da, our kid and Mrs DW. They've only met her once (briefly), we've been going out for ages. It's nuts.

Caution is fine but you have to back it up with reasoning, there isn't any here. We're sitting on our hands for another two and a half months for nothing. And to be honest I'm sick of hearing "just a few more weeks".

Trouble will be encouraging some down here out after all this time - if I go out in the afternoon it's like being in a film where I've missed the event that has killed everyone else off.

Just waiting for the zombies to start appearing really

If someone can explain why we're still in lockdown and will be for ages to come, I'm all ears.
