Thing is though if you're immunocompromised (and you will know if you are!) then you shouldn't be going going to the cinema or down the pub anyway until you're double shotted.

Everyone else shouldn't need to be shut away to protect from that.

And we ended up with another lockdown and renewed restrictions following that relaxed summer, which vast swathes of people complained about and pointed the figure at not learning from the first time.

Now here we are, doing things differently, lessons seemingly learnt and yet people still complaining.

IIRC we didn't have a vaccine administered to over 50% of the adult population at that time.

I don't think anyone was unhappy with the restrictions being lifted in the summer, it was not applying them again soon enough when cases started to rise that caused the issue.

We didn't have a vaccine then, it's not analogous.

Hospitalisations of the under 50s have always been tiny, let alone deaths.

Was also lifting loads of stuff all at the same time so we had no control. EOTHO, schools, "get back to the office" (absolutely moronic) and universities all inside about six weeks. So we had no clue what was causing what.

There's always a balance isn't there Mark, I don't think us sitting on our hands for the next 10 weeks is very sensible. Various sectors have been devastated economically, mental health is absolutely battered, we're now at a point where cases and deaths aren't even a factor. So what are we doing?

Current vaccines are incredibly good. The amount of over 65s who are showing up in the daily case counts are in the range of 100-200 out of 3-5k cases.

And that’s “cases”. How many of those were hospitalised?

The second dose actually makes a lot 9f difference to those that are immuno compromised. First dose can be only about 20-30% effective for some.

Which is why I stated statistically. The majority will have already had or soon to have the second dose.

Plus, the numbers outside the successful vaccine do not equal death. Covid is a lot more treatable, and even some form of immune response will help in something with an already very low mortality rate.

As I’ve stated previously, we cannot completely eradicate it. And like flu which has been around forever, even a successful vaccine cannot prevent hospitalisation and death because unfortunately people do have co-morbidities.

1st dose is 76%ish effective, 2nd dose is 82%ish effective.

Waiting for the 2nd dose will make not a lot of difference.

I know, this is the point I’m making. I’d wager of vaccinated population it is very very low. And insignificant statistically becuase even with a fully vaccinated population there will still be cases, hospitalisations and deaths.

My partner hasn't seen her family since Christmas, tomorrow we're heading back to see them as it's our first opportunity to do so since then and it'll make a huge difference to her, for about an hour then she'll be sick of them and whine about them all the way home.

Same with the changes in a couple of weeks, for you it's just an opportunity to sit outside a pub, for others reopening shops will be massive, both customers and employees.

No, but it's people like me who have been disproportionately affected by the last year. I live on my own and I have bipolar disorder.

It's not been a funfair.

So it follows that I'd be rather keen for this nonsense to end now that there's no need for it. It's like a kid learning how to ride a bike but we'll keep his stabilisers on for another two months in case he falls off.

I get to see my Dad tomorrow for the first time since September. Today we sat and had a beer in the garden with friends - again (thanks rule of 6) first time since September. These small changes make a massive difference to us.
