Anybody planning a sneaky break in Barmouth can pretty much scrub that idea. Wales closing the borders to travellers from hotspots in England. Quite how that will be policed I have no bloody idea.

When it was big lockdown, the Welsh police were on the petrol station in Machynlleth pinging number plates with the ANPR, any English ones were sent away, all those that were feeling sneaky and going through Dolgelleau were turned around at the island where you turn off for Barmouth, those that got through by going over mountains or turning up in the night got grassed up to the police by the locals.
Could be a bit of a bugger for me, I may be moving and I've furniture and stuff in storage in Machynlleth that I'll need for the new place

for a start, teaching will end way before 22 December. I know of at least 1 university that will be closed on 19 December for a start.
so is the plan for 2.5million people to all move across the country/relocate on 22 December? Really?

We have moved Nationally into Level 3, with some counties like Donegal and Cavan moved into Level 4 lockdown. Cavan reporting over 500 cases per 100k!
No idea what they are doing up there but they aren't observing the guidelines, that's for sure.

We had to cancel our third break this year, which was only a few days away in Wexford but still.... both myself and my wife need a break from the monotony of this apartment. We just wanted to have a swim and a few nice meals in a restaurant, nothing fancy but just some time away from these 4 walls but we can't leave Dublin now due to restrictions.

Hugely disappointing and depressing. Can't see how they can continue with these stop/start lockdowns for the next 12 months or so until everyone gets vaccinated.

I said this on your Facebook post Dan but for the benefit of everyone here: this is partially true. I was only sent the publicity stuff (pre-written press release and social media guidance) so this may well be totally true, but I haven't seen it personally. The e-mail I was sent was a more softly-softly version of this.

To be honest this kind of thing isn't uncommon with arts funding, I imagine the government pressed on it after the Fatima debacle/the general fury from artists on social media.

They awarded about 75% of the organisations that applied for the under £1m grant the funding they asked for (my workplace included) which worked out to £257m altogether. They've portioned another £250m of the £1.57bn to go in the above £1m grant pot which the big organisations will apply to (Grand, Hippodrome, RSC, National, etc.). I imagine only 20-30% will be successful and there will be some sad losses.

I was having a conversation the other day about ' how many of us know someone who has actually been tested positive for Covid ' and it seemed that not many of us actually knew anyone, including me, until yesterday. A family member on my hubbys side tested positive two days ago.

I'm not sure the circuit breaker would be as full-blown as March-June was: it seems they're still allowing households to socialise in outside areas with the rule of 6 with schools to remain open (well, Secondary at least). Obviously it would mean all non-essential businesses closing alongside leisure/entertainment facilities. Again. Which could be catastrophic for some.

I've recently bought a new car and the dealership contacted me this morning to ask if I could pick it up on Wednesday - they're anticipating a lockdown too so are throwing cars out the door...
