Our goal - Just me or the diving header is a rare skill used to score these days
I wonder if kids aren't coached not to. It's got to be dangerous.

It is if you are diving in an area where boots are flying around

Fine for a keeper to have to dive in as people kick though but not a CF....bloody woke footballers...

Also grim was watching us on the screens at Molineux v Sheff Wednesday away, the day Albion went up.

Cameron (?) Scored REALLY early to give us hope, but nope, horrible.
30 seconds in I think? Lescott got the other.
I was at the front at hillsborough. It didn't cross my mind until we got there and I realised we were in the Leppings Lane stand, and we were on the front row.
I just felt horrible for most of the game knowing what had happened previously where I was stood/sat.

Maybe these days but in my day it expected of you. Dangerous... yes and no... depends on circumstances but real goalscorers couldn't careless as long as they score.

I can’t master posting the links, but this thread has been tipping towards Stewart Lee’s ‘Health and Safety / political correctness confusion’ routine for a while now…

I was on the first couple of rows too, right behind the goal. It didn’t occur to me that was where the Liverpool fans died :(

Remember attending our game at Molineux and being in the South Bank for the first game to kick off following Hillsborough and it all felt a bit eerie

That was the Torquay Sherpa Van game. First league one was against Swansea and there were sheep noises made during the minute's silence. Port Vale away that season was the one that made me think retrospectively. 6k of us I think there that day and I didn't set foot on the ground for most of the game. Ended 0-0 and probably for the best

Thinking about how most stadiums back then were shitholes and potential death traps. The Police didn’t give a toss about safety it was all geared up to preventing disorder.
I could barely get on the open terrace as it was then for the Port Vale game, imprisoned at Nottingham station prior to the Notts County game (highlights posted on the history site a few weeks back) before being on their open terrace. Worst was at Colchester for a non league FA cup game when the police allowed so many people into a side fenced off pen behind the goal. Supporters were being crushed against a wall at the front (albeit only 3 foot high) before they saw sense and opened the next one along. A wall came down at the fellows park when Smallsall had a big game in a cup run.

I was right behind the goal too. Behind the right hand goalpost.
I don't think I realised until we were walking towards the ground and I saw we were in the leppings lane end that it hit me. I tried watching the game, but was extremely conscious of the small concrete wall in front of me, wondering if that was where the fencing had previously been.
Such a jarring experience.

Looking back it seems amazing we were playing football a couple.of days after Hillsborough, no way would that happen now. I think that's probably because disasters back then were all too common. Bradford fire 85, Kings Cross fire and Zeebrugge ferry both 87, Lockerbie bombing and Clapham Junction train crash in 88, plus IRA activities throughout the decade. We as a nation weren't desensitised, but a large-scale loss of life at a tragedy wasn't unusual either, thankfully in the way it would be today.
