Brentford (H) FA Cup 3rd Rnd Replay 16/1 - Build Up & Match Thread

The quiz is here anyway if anyone missed it before and wants a go:

24/26 very good for me. Apart from the two at home in 2016 (I think) the one I struggled with most was the fourth one at their place in the league about three weeks ago!

Having Doherty as Sa's out ball ala the Nuno era worked well against Brentford last week. Giving both Sa and Doc something to focus on stops their minds drifting..

Watching a completely different game to me. Doherty was nobody's out ball.

Sa was aiming his goal kicks to him like we used to with Nuno and Patricio.

Yep that was noticeable. Not sure how effective it was though. The occasional flick on from Doherty would retain possession, but just as many went to the opposition or out for a throw-in. I'd rather Sa just gave the ball to someone in a Wolves shirt who might do something useful with it.

Agreed.

It's like if I've got some absolutely shite stewing steak in the fridge. I could make a passable casserole with it. But I'd rather eat a much nicer meal with actual decent ingredients.

I thought the TWF masses would be pleased Sa was not attempting something more intricate! 😅

In terms of aerial duels, Doherty won 9/13 (of course not all would have been the goal kicks, but by comparison Bueno won 2/2), if we can win the second ball it could be effective.

He's obviously been told post-Luton not to fuck about so much. And fair play, he has mostly been decent since.

His fundamentals as a keeper are actually quite good, it's the random ridiculous stuff which drives people* up the wall.

He's definitely prone to brain farts (all keepers are to more or less degrees thats the separator), as you say he's fundamentally a good keeper, it's his concentration and decision making that lets him down, and GON/Cutler etc have clearly been working on that.

He's always been so puzzling to work out. He's let in more ludicrous goals than any Wolves keeper I've ever known but also his ceiling is getting towards as high as the very best (Murray/Rui) we've seen.

So much of his nonsense was entirely preventable. I can't think of any other keeper I've ever watched across the whole of football that has randomly wandered out of goal to allow a virtual open goal from 35 yards out for no reason and yet I've seen Sa do that at least three times in a couple of years.

Fucking Doherty that game, what an idiot.

If you had told me after that game that he'd still be here 9 years later I'd probably have broken down crying.
After leaving the club and playing for one of the madrids as well!

Really not looking forward to freezing my tits off tonight

Conversely, after the game at the City Ground and watching Dominic Iorfa pocket Antonio I'd have laughed in your face if you'd told me that in his prime he'd be bobbing around the Championship bottom six and League One nine years later.

It's a funny old game.

Anyone know if they have key players missing?
Any news on Lemina?

Don't know what this forum is coming to!
Less than 3 hours to kick off on the night of an FA Cup replay and this thread isn't even on the 'What's New' page!
Well, it is now...
And then a minor staff member refers me to 'a few pages back!!'
Jesus!
I can remember when....
