Boxing thread

From the little I've seen I like Gorman and Dubois. They have a way to go yet but Dubios is only 20 and he looks a top prospect.

Out of curiosity, looked up every heavyweight champion of the 90s (don't remember all of them):

Tyson
Damiani
Douglas
Holyfield
Mercer
Moorer
Bowe
Lewis
Morrison
Bentt
Hide
McCall
Foreman
Seldon
Bruno
Akinwande
V Klitschko

There is some dross on there tbf. Henry Akinwande :icon_lol:

Bruce Seldon is probably the worst, literally took a dive against Tyson. Won his belt against an ancient Tony Tucker.

Yeah, I like the look of Dubois but he is very, very raw. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on against Cojanu (who has lost his last two fights to Ortiz & Parker, who aren't anywhere near the top guys in the division) - but it'll certainly do Dubois no harm at all getting in the ring with someone so experienced & getting more rounds under his belt.

Fury wins. Awkward fighter with almost delusional levels of self belief. He basically took the piss out of Klitschko and Wilder is not in that league.

Dreadful decision - Fury the true champion. Maybe he'll actually start getting the credit he deserves.

If it wasnt for the 12th round knockdown fury wins that fight but a monumental effort from both fighters

Edit: just rewatched the fight Fury had 8 rounds easily should have won

The state of that card

It was an exhibition of boxing by Fury whose gameplay worked up to the final round. However in all my years watching boxing I have never seen a fighter get knocked out and recover to beat the count. He was incredible to beat that count.
Interesting though is what next? Joshua has the beating of Wilder on this showing. Fury however is a boxing Traore!

And that judge card is ridiculous. Fury Schooled Wilder for 5 of the first 6 rounds. That judge only gave him one round! Awful

If anybody is boxing’s Traore it’s Wilder - 12 rounds lacking any real ring craft, but steals a draw with a couple of flashes of explosiveness.

The Mexican judge’s score was scandalous - kudos to Fury, but a robbery occurred.

Agreed on the Traore comparison. Wilder just flails and hopes to land on the basis that one punch could end it. He's always been seen as a limited fighter and he did nothing to change that perception this morning.

Christ, it's even spilling over to the boxing thread.

Is wilder worth £18m though? Cardiff might fancy a punt at him

Wilder is the money ticket, those judges will get future work by not having him as a loser.

One day a film will be made about Tyson Fury's comeback yet tonight he loses out to a netball team at SPOTY.

Perhaps it wasn't appropriate for a drugs cheat to win?

Edit - again

A netball team that won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, beating the hosts and hot favourites.

I love Tyson, but I don’t see the correlation between who he lost to and your point.

It's a great achievement but it's not extraordinary in the way that Fury's return was.

Wilder doesn't want AJ
AJ doesn't want Fury
So looks like it'll be Whyte versus AJ and he'll outclass him again
