Boxing thread

Not really bothered about whether people hate each other or not. Just want to see a good fight.

Not sure Bellew is even able to get a championship fight at this stage. Don't really get the way it works in boxing, basically just need Parker, Wilder, Joshua to fight each other, but they are all fighting nobodies instead.
Well he was already Cruiserweight champion so there's a title he could have defended. He also would have been more attractive to Parker as the payday for all would have been higher, but he'll get more for Haye.

There was no money in cruiserweight. Openly says he made 20x more fighting Haye. A rematch was always on the cards the way it went.

I don't get how Hughie Fury got a shot at Parker, now Whyte is likely to get a shot at Wilder. Why?

Wilder's next opponent has failed a drug test. So Whyte is a flabby tin can who'll step in at short notice.

Pulev out of fight with AJ with injury so Carlos Takam steps in to replace him.

Takam lost by UD to Joseph Parker last year.

Takam will get murdered.

Fuck me why dir that get stopped? A bit early to step in ref IMHO.

Massive kudos to Takam (head butt aside...)

Wouldn’t say he had to work for it too much. Was boxing in 3rd gear. The result was never in doubt after about 3 rounds, only thing in doubt was KO.

The ref ‘may’ have stepped in too early, but he’d just taken a few unanswered shots and was an open target. The next barrage might have been the ones that left him injured or even dead.

Why should we wait for a guy to be unconscious on the floor before we end the fight when you may as well have ended it after Round 7 when it was over on the cards anyway.

Just watched the fight back in better quality was away last night and the stream was garbage. Firstly hats off to Takam he really is a tough guy, took quite a lot of punches and was still trying to make a fight of it. The headbutt was quite nasty and anyone that has suffered a broken nose will know its not pleasant even for a tough boxer like AJ I think this didn't help. The stoppage is early no doubt about that in my mind I presumed it was down to the damage to Takam's eye but it really didn't look that bad on second viewing. Takam would have wanted to see the final bell and I think he could have got there, he was still defending himself and fighting back so I think its poor refereeing.

I don't think the result was ever in doubt but it was certainly a good work out for AJ under difficult circumstances.

I really want to see the Wilder fight next, lot of people think he has the beating of AJ but I really don't think that will be the case, AJ is too slick and will land and hurt him IMO.

Wilder beats some 39 year old fat guy (who is normally decent according to Tony Bellew) in a round swinging full on windmill style.

He then proceeds to call out AJ, I think it will happen. I think AJ wins comfortably but should be exciting.

He has rejected the chance to fight Whyte.

The same fat guy who took him 12 rounds I believe. You can only beat what is put in front of you. I think Wilder is dangerous as he has a screw loose. The guys elevator doesnt appear to go to all floors. Joshua will have to keep him at arms length to start with , using his jab and taking some early heat. Then he should have too much strength and too much power. But its no picnic.

He is mad as a box of frogs no doubting that. Stiverne had a decent record albeit again not fighting anyone of note. He hadn't fought for 2 years and was out of shape, not Wilders fault but hardly a challenge. Bellew thinks AJ will struggle with his reach, yanks are convinced he will smash AJ so plenty of fuel for an exciting fight.

Wilders not fought anyone - Stiverne is bang average and took him the distance when he was fully fit. As has been said Stiverne should never have been near that fight as he hadn't fought for so long. Joshua isn't perfect but he comfortably beats Wilder for me. Parker too.

Joshua is not unbeatable or infallible. Just like Lennox Lewis wasnt. But he is a class above anything else I have seen this year. He should beat them all. Wilders has a good punch punch and , if allowed to land , will test AJs chin. I just think AJ is too powerful. It must be like being jabbed by an anvil. That would wear anyone down!

I always remember someone saying that Lewis's jab was like being hit with a bag of cement haha, AJ is a beast I just think technically he will have way more than Wilder has experienced before. Nothing is a sure bet but my money is on AJ by knockout!

Looks like Haye has pulled out of the pointless rematch with Bellew. Injured again. Stick a fork in him.
