Boris at it again and the contest to replace the lying c***

The hype for electric cars is getting out of hand - really not sure how green they will be seeing as how we will have to generate the electricity (& provide a network to re fuel them) plus the build CO2 input is masive, particularly with scarce metals.

They say that they are cheaper to run, but that's before the loss of fuel duty on petrol/diesal cars & road tax kicks in then other taxes will occur to recover the cost anyway.

There are other potential technologies which should have been funded years ago to see whether they gave a better potential outcome.
The UK grid factor is getting better and better - using cars as dynamic storage for when generation is over capacity is a great way of managing variable generation capacity from renewables. Much better than using LPG and, assuming batteries and charging deliver what's capable, infinitely better and safer than driving round in a mini-hindenberg.

Worry I have with electric is that, at the moment, they need certain rare elements which are scarce - mostly found in poor countries where the workforce is paid minimally & under real risk to do the work.

They solution isn't not using those elements (assume you mean Coltan from the DRC), but sourcing them ethically. Will be a much better help to the miners than cutting off their only income source.

Not suggesting that we cut off their source of income but as to sourcing it ethically who is going to be able to ensure that.

Think that the DRC is about the only place to obtain this from as well so presumably it runs out at some point - what then.

Same goes for LPG though, but a lot quicker.

There's plenty of organisations which support sustainable practises in mining, most companies will have a fairly strict CSR policy. The DRC's not the wild West it was (if it ever was), it's very easy to do audits.

I have no expertise in this area, just a concern for those who come after - at my age then it probably isn't going to seriously affect me, but I have children who will be.

Sure that there are organisations who audit suppliers & support sustainable practices, but we also know of those who are happy to 'do a Nelson' till they get found out if it's in their commercial interest.

I do worry about piling into one technology and putting all resources in that direction when there are other options which may (or may not - we won't know for certain until we try) are cut adrift.

It's a bit late to worry about central electricity generation.

In terms of the cars there isn't just one technology, much the same as there isn't just one IC engine.

The magic money tree has been found again. 10% increase in defence spending announced. Which other departments will suffer because of it?

Errr. Why? Any particular obvious upcoming conflict concern that I am missing, bar Trump engaging the bucket list and nuking Iran before January?

Wonder what will have to go to pay for that, bet the Royal tank regiment goes and tanks get scrapped, an RAF squadron will probably go, and a few ships, even though we are already short of ships

Nah, we won't cut any ships, we need those to shoot the immigrants' dinghies and the foreign fishermen...

Priti Vacant sent to get a written warning from Boris regarding the allegations of bullying staff. The report into her actions probably won't get released though.

Also rumours she will be moved from Home Sec to Party Chairman in the New Year shuffle

Laura K still has Cummings on speed dial.

So according to sources she had broken the ministerial code and had been bullying folk but she’s a bit too vacant to realise it.

Looks like Priti is keeping her job. Unprecedented for a minister to be found to have broken the ministerial code and stayed in the job. You would have thought Boris may have learnt something from the backlash of Cummings in May, but evidently not. Sticking by her regardless.

Her bullying was 'unintentional' apparently...
