Boris at it again and the contest to replace the lying c***

Very little leeway on that at all. I don’t think we are far from general strike and widespread non payment of energy bills.
How do people on here think about not paying energy bills?

I want to do it, but i'm also fearful of creating credit score issues, getting my energy cut off etc.

You'll most likely get fined on your bills as an extra.

I understand why people want to do it, and get the feeling the energy companies would go do the courts and jail route to prove the point of you don’t get away with not paying multi national multi billion pound companies who want your money, get the feeling the government would let them as well, because money.

You can't be jailed for not paying energy bills!
The worst they can do is apply for a court order to disconnect the supply.
Depends what stance the judiciary choose to take.

These are strange times, not so long ago Sunak was wanting anyone bad mouthing the tories to be classed as extremist, anything is possible now

The justice system is absolutely knackered (thanks Tories) and wouldn't be able to deal with the cases purely on volume, let alone having the will to completely disconnect customers (which rarely happens, they generally get an order to force entry if necessary and fit a pre-pay meter. Again there aren't enough enforcement agents to do this all at once to hundreds of thousands of people)

We went down the route of holding back part of our council tax bill when that came in. Caused a bit of pain later.

I think mass non-payment is definitely an option. The other one I have seen is stopping direct debit payments, paying for what you use and then filing a complaint. While the complaint is active they can't charge you, then continue to hold the complaint and go to the ombudsman. If enough people did this it would completely snarl the energy companies in bureaucracy. I can't remember the exact way to do it, but it was certainly along these lines.

Yeah, the complaints procedure is similar to what I used to do in banking. People vastly overstate the threat of the Ombudsman (and you have to fully exhaust the internal complaints procedure before they're even a thing) but basically you can tie up a lot of time if you want to.

Energy companies taking random amounts by DD for power that hasn't been used has long since been a scandal. I'm not there to lend you money in advance, do one.

I think the ombudsman tactic was simply to drag out the complaints procedure as long as possible and tie them up in bureaucracy rather than any actual threat of action against them.

I wondered when this shite would reappear. Another way of asking for more for less. I wonder how much longer the top 5% think they can keep squeezing this teat without serious social unrest?

There is social unrest now - Canadian truckers, Dutch farmers and people starving in Sri Lanka who simply had enough. That's just the tip of the iceberg. There are cities across the globe in absolute chaos that have completely broken down.

Whatever system occurs, left, right, middle or whatever other bollocks we can all argue about you will always have those at the top shafting those below. The technocracy that is gathering pace scares the shit out of me. We are no longer required to consume and at at times I wonder if that just simply leaves most of us redundant to their equation.

Can you see an economic recovery? It is going to get much much worse.

Most tin hat nut jobs try and sound at least vaguely coherent for purposes of believability. Did you avoid the effort to stand out?

If we had a competent government we'd be looking at cheaper ways of producing energy that align with our shadowy overlords objectives.

Maybe they also wouldn't have allowed our biggest domestic gas storage facility to fall into disuse and not replace it.

Incidentally a year ago Kwarteng said that was no big deal and now he wants to re-open it. Only that will take ages.

Can y'all pull your fingers out lads, you're letting the country down...

The West Midlands is to engines what Freddie Flintstone's car was to engines.

Can't make out how Truss will fund the tax cuts - in fact Starmer is probably quite perturbed that Truss will spend the money the country hasn't got before he can get to it.
