Getting into planning a trip to LA and Vegas next year to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary at the end of Feb. Flying into LA staying 4 nights (base of the Hollywood Hills) and then driving to Vegas, will be driving down the old bit of Route 66. Staying there for 3 nights before driving back, another night in LA (Venice Beach) and back home. I am actually looking forward to the drive, despite there not being a lot between the 2 places as I have hired a Chevy Camaro SS Convertible

Only thing set in stone is a Helocopter Ride into the Grand Canyon. Turns out LA is so excited for my visit it has arranged for a whole host of stars to greet me (well the Oscars are on during my visit which is a ballache as they close down streets to set shit up.

So any tips on what to visit in either of the places and on the drive (Attractions, pubs, restaurants). I will be visiting the Goose Island bar in the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas

Sounds awesome, who are you thinking of flying with?

I really reccomend the Wyn breakfast (if you time it right you can go from breakfast to lunch) it's the biggest and best buffet I've ever been too. They were roasting a whole pig when we went...!

The helicopter into the grand canyon is an amazing experience, you will love it.

Wife has already booked the flights - Flying with BA from Heathrow. She was happy with them when we did NYC earlier this year. So now it is all about planning as much as we can in our time there

Wyn breakfast on the list, cheers

Been to Vegas a few times (and it's great!) A San Francisco to Vegas roadtrip is something I have on the long list of "things to do" in the future.

We went to Vegas on our honeymoon and loved it.

I can't remember which buffet we went to but I can confirm it was ace. It switched from a breakfast buffet to a lunch buffet while we were there but I was too full to eat any of the lunch stuff!

We also went to Hash House a Go Go purely because it had featured on a Man V Food episode.

That's the Freemont street area with the Golden Nugget Casino and other attractions. Well worth a visit.

Yeah, Downtown Vegas was great. We went there to go to a drive-thru wedding venue to renew our vows (to make up for the fact that we both wished we'd got married in Vegas). We went in the Golden Nugget afterwards and my wife won the jackpot on a Goldfish slot machine. It was only about $30 though!

I do like the "old Vegas" but seeing as Kenny is only there for three nights (with a trip to the Grand Canyon factored in) you'd be pushed to get everything done.

Dependant on where you are staying in Las Vegas I'd suggest walking down the one side of the strip one day and the other the next. There is plenty enough to keep you occupied.

Got a stupidly good deal tbh. Was one of the cheaper hotels we looked at and that included some off the strip.

Hotels in LA were pricey mind....made sense when we realised the Oscars are happening that weekend. Obviously every hotel decided all their guests were Movie stars and could afford it.

Tell them you were once on a major ITV programme showing some classic anger at Matt Murray (of all people). You can't have really meant it so it must have been superb acting.

Oscar winning performance? Should sort out a good deal...

Hotel we are staying take the piss though. Apparently has to have valet parking to stop guests parking in residential areas. $26 a day plus the tip to park. If they park it in the 1st space they will drive the car around 4 metres! Just let me park it.

We had the same with the valet parking in LA, it seems fairly standard. It's surprisingly easy to drive round the city through, except at rush hour, so the car will be handy as everything is spread out. Highlights for me were Universal Studios and the Griffith Observatory. Hollywood and the Chinese Theatre and Walk of Fame were a bit disappointing, but you have to do it. Food wise, Chinatown is a must and Pink's Hot Dogs is worth a visit. Venice Beach is brilliant.

Off to Cornwall tomorrow with the wife and the Labradoodle.
We stay in a farmhouse cottage near Wadebridge.

Perfect for Rock beach, Padstow, Trevone Bay and Harlyn Bay.
We are also going to Trebah Gardens for the first time.

We always go out of season - either Spring or Autumn and very rarely have anything but fantastic weather.
Easy Car Parking, empty beaches and restaurants....its just lovely.

Stopping at Bude on the way for Fish and Chips at 'Life's a Beach!'

First holiday in retirement - very relaxed and excited!!

If you are in the Bude area it would be rude not to pop to Tintagel. The castle is ace and all the King Arthur stuff (although clearly bollocks) is thoroughly enjoyable.

The castle is closed until September whilst they construct this:

Really? Didn't know that. Did it come down, or just an upgrade?

I always remember the old bridge being VERY rickety.

It's brand new. Caused quite the stir amongst the Cornish.

Booked a long weekend in Krakow next month with a couple of friends. Really looking forward to it - first trip to Poland. Or anywhere east of The Netherlands come to think of it (Greece doesn't count).
