Bellend commentators

The ex-Blues twat has actually said United could win the title with Koulibaly, Grealish and Jimenez

Errr - that's probably pushing £300m and I reckon I am under-selling it at that point.

Jim White need I say anymore, working from home with him on in the background is painful regularly end up turning over to absolute 90’s.

What do you think of the Woods/Flintoff combo?

Don’t mind it much prefer to Alan Brazil boasting about where he’s been free loading. At least Flintoff has the ability to self depricate to.
Jim White always looking for an anti English dig where he can somewhere counted 3 this week.

Steve McManaman - haven't missed him in the slightest

Really noticeable watching old games how good Brian Moore and Barry Davies were. Leagues better than Motson who made it all about him. Absolute prick of a man too.

Brian Moore was a class act, remember watching European football back in the early 90’s when you didn’t know to much about the European side. Moore gave you relevant information about each side not useless history stats that Motson did.

Yep. It doesn't matter how many times Wigan have won at Peterborough in the past 30 years. Each game is different you cockwomble.

Used to fill up his Bentley at the garage I worked at before I got qualified. In those days it took just over 50 quid to fill a Bentley. Something like £50.50 seemed common with him. Always paid with two fifty pound notes and wiped out my float. Regular as clockwork.

I've think I've mentioned on here before that (allegedly) the BBC employed a minder in the 2010 world cup just to stop him from sampling the 'local hospitality'.

Watching all the old World Cup games - Davies is continually sublime, Moore was still very much on top of his game in 1990, Brooking was an excellent co-commentator, only speaks when there's something to say.

Motson however was awful even back in the 80s.

His 2002 commentary vs Argentina is particularly painful. Bizarrely he seems to think everyone sits down on a Friday lunchtime for a three course meal and he wouldn't stop going on about smashing plates and glasses. As if no-one has ever watched a football match and had something to eat at home at the same time.

Other than at the BBC Barry Davies was universally rated higher than Motson even at the time.

Moore & Davies let the game do the talking would get excited when appropriate, wouldn’t patronise like Tyldsley does and didn’t think that everyone watching the game was stupid.
Was clear that Moore did exceptional work prior to the game to. Clearly remember in the early 90’s when Man Utd were on their run to the CWC they played in some very obscure locations.
Moore let you know what to expect from the opposition, would give you the view from club and journalists following the foreign side and how the atmosphere was like before the game. This was way before you could just go online and get all your info from there.

I'm no fan of Jonathan Pearce (that goalline tech farce in 2014 was the final nail in the coffin) but he did one good thing. Stopped reacting to Lawrenson's camp as Christmas "jokes". So he ended up stopping doing them.

Motson kept doing that inane little half-chuckle and encouraging the dickhead. They were a terrible combination.

Hah amazing, I actually remember losing it around this as a 15 year old whilst watching this game. I didn't catch it when it was on the other day but I clearly remember him continually banging on about the time of day it was and extensive lunchtime meals. In fact I think he spent the entire tournament struggling to get his head around the concept of time zones. I always hated the way he reacted to every goal/incident as if he was shocked as well (all he says for everything is 'ooooh and...', I used to put it down to age but I watched a game from the 82 WC the other day and he was doing it then as well. Idiot.

If BBC ever re-show the 2008 FA Cup final, you'll notice that there's an odd silence after Kanu scores. This is because in real time the stupid old fool was saying it was offside and it had been disallowed (for a good 30 seconds as well, which doesn't sound like a lot but it is in commentary terms), and they've had to erase the audio as it sounds ridiculous.

He was so often factually incorrect in his calling of a game it used to drive me demented.

The best radio football commentator there has ever been was in my opinion the peerless Peter Jones. Fantastic.
