Bellend commentators

The compliment that I'll pay to Vicky Sparks is that when she is on Match of the Day or commentating I don't notice it to be any different to any other commentator if that makes sense. Yes its a female voice but its not in my mind that it is different to other commentators. If she was spouting not stop ridiculous facts and figures that Motson/Tyldesley do I'd be criticising her but she doesn't.

As for Sutton, I haven't been a fan to date but I didn't hear him last night. Seems to be trying to hard to either be controversial or to be a "character" when I have heard him.

Vicky Sparks is OK, I suppose, but the timbre of her voice is too high pitched for me, especially when she gets excited.

The best female commentator I've heard IMO, is former England cricketer Isa Guha who is used by Sky for their cricket coverage. She has a mellower voice and paces her comments well, good knowledge of the game she is covering and a good sense of humour.

to be fair, Phil Neville was when he started. And now his media training has made him sound like an over-excited presenter on a children's wildlife show trying not to disturb a lion.

:icon_lol:

That's a very accurate description!

For cricket I quite like Emily Rainford-Brent on TMS. Seems very natural and relaxed, as well as knowledgeable.

Just as a general point, at the risk of seeming abysmally PC (I know people hate that) I do think it's important that we get more female voices heard. I've got two daughters doing sport and I know they engage more when they have female role models. Sedentary population, obesity crisis, whatever good cause you want to pick, it's a good thing all round if we can get more girls/women participating in sport/activities and the visible normalisation of women in elite sport will help that.

She's good when she is concentrating on the cricket and not on the on air love in that she and Dagnall appear to have together. I know that both Tony and myself have said the same in the past. Guha and Mitchell are fine commentators too.

Good point re the female voices. Having three lads and a Mrs that doesn't get sport in general its not something I'd really considered. I do think that sporting opportunities for girls is much greater now then when I was growing up 30 odd years ago. My middle sister was a good all round athlete when growing up and held her own with my older brothers mates at football/cricket and I'm sure could if she was growing up today she could have a go a decent level in whatever sport took her fancy.

Wouldn't disagree with either of those statements. Being a sports commentator, anchor or journalist should not be limited by anything other than ability. I'd say the same about pundits but not sure people would want to listen to a pundit who hadn't played football at a high level.

Which brings me to today's shambles starring Patrice Evra whose erudite musings include 'Griezman and Kante are playing well, they just need to continue to play well'. Thanks for that wonderful insight Patrice. Stealing a living.

Criticise what she says all you like. DDW has clearly criticised her voice here, not the content of what she said. That's ironic given the black country accent or whatever accent no doubt any of us holds.

Her voice is thin and whiney. I didn't like it. Im not criticising her because of her gender! And yes, I've been known to slag the Wolverhampton accent too.

FFS there's always a social justice warrior ready when sometimes there's no need for one.

Which is exactly what I said. Not sure anyone on here has said she was the best thing since sliced bread.

DDW's post definitely gave the impression that his main issue with her was that she was a woman. Couldn't even use her name - just "the woman". (You never see people referring to "the man" in such situations - they use a name.) You may not like it, and I'm sure DDW's a stand-up guy, but that's how it read.

What a load of rubbish! People say "the guy from" or "the bloke out of" all the time!
I called her "the woman" because I genuinely didn't know her name! If I had said "the lady" would that have been ok?

Honestly, some of you guys could pick a fight with yourselves in an empty room.

Fair enough. You're free to go.

Tyldesley and Hoddle are absolute shite. Tyldesley explaining about players standing still when they see a flag and waiting for VAR are the reason linesman aren't flagging for close offside calls. No Clive you fucking penis that's shit defending, you are told as a child to play to the whistle you blithering thundercunt.

Did Clive really just say the premier league refs are better at policing corners?

Apparently it's no wonder there are no PL refs here as it's a different rule book. Pillock.

I thought it was a mistake the first time, but it seems Martin Keown really does think it's pronounced Argentinia.

'Really good defendersson' Martin Keown 2018.

Kilbane is one of rhe best so far.

Rio really is a good pundit, needs to do more of it.
