Just finished off a Duvel and about to start another. No matter how many beers I have tried in my lifetime(And I daresay its over a thousand by now) Duvel is still my favorite by far.

Love a bit of Daily Mash, touches many a nerve.

Standard real ale man myself, but enjoy keeping the odd bottle of random stuff in the cupboard to have a taste of now and again. Really enjoy the Black Country Ales which tend to get topped up as birthday/Christmas gifts, but if you fancy a brief flirtation with pretentious-knobbishness this is well worth a go:

Really? Either it’s bollocks or those flavours are lost on me. Granted, it’s likely to be the latter. This an absolutely stonking beer, great full flavour with a long-lasting taste. It’s just very…. nice. And, reasonably priced too to be fair. Just a beautiful beer that doesn’t need dressing up like that.

The flowery, artistic descriptions of beer have the cynic in me turning away. Maybe people will buy any old shite as long as it sounds sophisticated enough. I dunno. Keep that nonsense to wine, it’s a great shame it’s happening with beer too.

Just be prepared for the inevitable challenge.

Traditional ale to me is boring tasteless garbage, I'm thinking things like Banks's anything and Marston's bathwater or John Smith's putrid bile. If that's your bag then good luck to you is just not for me.

I 100% agree with Cambridge. Beer should taste of beer. The other stuff can get in the sea.

Ok, I guess a better way of putting it is… I’m not generally a bottled beer person, but good quality one now and again is a treat. Just love real ale, and whilst enjoying all of the varieties still lean towards a good quality, robust, copper/amber ale. Milton Brewery Pegasus is probably my favourite - perhaps not as imaginative as many would like but in terms of delivering what a good pint of ale is supposed to do it takes some beating. Do like a lighter, blond ale at times, but a traditional ale in a warm pub on a cold night takes some beating.

100% agree about the bland big-brewery offerings. They are dreadful. And becoming worryingly dominant again, certainly round here, and that can never be a good thing.

Edit: I don’t have the palate to detect those subtle flavours described, I just know what I enjoy - hence my suspicion that the flowery wording is an elaborate marketing smokescreen to just drive sales. I’ll leave that to those with better knowledge to decide.

There's plenty of different beers that are on tap (keg and cask) and sticking to one seems odd to me.

My local brewery is Titanic and their pubs keep exceptional beer on draught from their Iceberg IPA to Cappuccino Stout. Their Captain Smith is their dark offering and is very good

I got into stouts and dark beers a couple of years ago and there's some great ones that a description is necessary for (Siren's Breakfast Stout, Northern Monk's peanut butter and chocolate porter, Titanic's plum porter).

Tasting notes are pretty important for beers these days imo.

There are several pubs in Wolverhampton you can get a draught beer from that isn't traditional.

I know what I like and beer with tasting notes or citrus isn’t it. Don’t even get me started on the bloody jam donut one Bird has pre match a while back. If I want a donut I will buy a donut.

Been drinking them as after work pints for years. Not every day but when I fancy them. Match day I drink the lager as you know.

Not that it matters much at the moment as the chances of me seeing the inside of a pub in the foreseeable future look financially unlikely.

Indeed, IIRC you're not overly fond of Lambics/Geuzes, whereas I absolutely love them.
