Aston Villa

She reminds me of Grima Wormtongue rather than Gollum. Seems appropriate.

Wrong thread folks. I am sure there is a thread designated for this forums hatred of the Conservative party.

Back on track, I know a few Villa fans, and they think they should not sell him for less than £40m. It seems unlikely to me, but who knows nowadays.

They'll get half that and they're lucky if and when they do. He isn't that good.

It does make you wonder what planet Villa fans live on. James Maddison just vastly outperformed Jack Grealish in a way worse team in the same league and has just been sold for £22m (a price bumped up because Coventry were due a decent portion of the fee). I would stop a long way short of saying that Diogo Jota is worth £40m at present. He scored 17 goals last season and is way younger than Jack Grealish with way more on his CV (Champions League experience etc).

He's a decent player but he isn't a kid any more, he doesn't really have a position, his output is rubbish in statistical terms and the whole world knows Villa need cash right now.

He benefits from the hype and media coverage he got 3 years ago from a combination of a good FA Cup semi final performance, a will he/won't he International choice and serially getting hammered. That persona elevates his worth as a name beyond the worth he's proven on the pitch. He won't go for anything like £40m, but despite Villa's financial situation he will go for £20m+ with a significant amount of that up front.

Interestingly, Villa's website has been 'down for maintenance' since yesterday. Don't know if there is any more to it than routine maintenance, just seems to be a long time.

They've been forward financing deals again. Only this time Fiorentina refused to pay them early for Carlos Sanchez, so they've borrowed the money off Macquarie instead.

It's not huge amounts either and I guess that the Bank involved will be taking a hefty fee for the transaction. Running a club with payday loan style borrowing isn't going to end well.

They have factored a debt owed which becomes due on 5th July as I understand it. And Macquarie don't do these things for free.

If they are having to do that just to free cash A WHOLE WEEK EARLY, then their cash flow is absolutely borked and it would also indicate that their overdraft facility with their own bank has been frozen or withdrawn.

Basically they have increased their authorised share capital and then allotted the shares for cash. However, the cash could be a writing off of outstanding debt I guess. The form of allotment specifically says that no shares were allotted for any consideration other than cash, but that is standard on that form. There should be a further sheet that actually details to whom the shares have been allotted as well really.

As I read it, Xia has written off a bunch of debt to have an increased share capital that he then ring-fences to pass on to someone who wants to buy into the club.

Hmmm

I wonder why they varied the terms of Wyness' service contract on 25 May? Same date as the resolution to issue this share capital increase. And then they terminated his appointment two weeks later.

Something fishy going on.

This was all done the day before the playoff final, they've just had to formally notify Companies House within 31 days by law.

It points to Twitter Tone planning to bail if they went up and he makes a profit. Now they haven't, he just has a load more irrelevant shares.

No-one is going to pay money to have a minority stake in Aston Villa at the moment, you might as well KLF your cash pile.

Unsurprisingly I know about that Companies House requirement! Ah - the joys of the previous career...

I looked at the date and thought exactly the same. It was laying the ground works for a post promotion bail for loadsamoney. I would still love to know what the change to Wyness' service contract was though. Done at the same time.

That will be the key to his constructive dismissal claim, whatever it is. If I had to guess I'd say it was some form of removing responsibilities on a fairly large scale.
