It's all hugely amusing. I am beginning to think that those in control at the club share the same delusion as their fans about their status in present-day football.
A mid-table championship club that hasn't won anything for years and is utterly and completely hamstrung from investing in a totally imbalanced squad because of FFP just isn't going to attract the giants of the managerial game. Or indeed the middleweights.
This appointment process is looking like an unholy mess. Such a shame.
Nearly thirty years sharing an office with a Villa STH, i still have witty comments in my phone book about Darren Anderton, for the sake of Midlands football I don't want them to disappear but i would not at all be adverse to them sliding at least another division or two.
The really disappointing thing is after the vanity projects they'll probably now go for Dean Smith who was always the best candidate and if they don't go up this year will do a decent job for them if FFP kicks in.
I'm really hoping Dean smith turns them down because he feels Brentford can go on to bigger things, that'd be ace,and maybe show all those entitled wim a big club fans the reality they're in
They are STILL going on about how massive they are and that they deserve a BIG NAME as no other appointment can possibly cope with the true enormity of Aston Villa.
Deluded cunts need to look at that fucking league table. Especially the name of the competition they are in written all over the top of it.
The last 15 managers to earn promotion from the Championship:
Nuno Espirito Santo
Neil Warnock
Slavisa Jokanovic x 2
Rafa Benitez
Chris Hughton
David Wagner
Sean Dyche x 2
Aitor Karanka
Steve Bruce (yeah, really)
Eddie Howe
Alex Neil
Nigel Pearson
Harry Redknapp
Seems to me you don't need a name at all, take Benitez, Bruce and Redknapp out of it (all of whom relegated their team in the first place to put them in that league, and were just fixing their own damage - albeit Rafa had a poor hand when he took over) and none of those managers were especially lauded when the season kicked off.
Having JT has the defacto number 2 must be off putting for any potential manager. If things start to go a little astray then the fans will be calling for JT to be the manager
The good thing is no matter who they appoint their defence will still be shit
It’s this season or bust really, new manager coming will know this.
Seems like the board reacted after the poison of the PNE game.
The plan to get someone in seems scatter gun.
Percy just tweeted they are close to confirming him as manager. Good appointment but equally brentford will have a contingency already, they generally think ahead for these situations
