Aston Villa (H) build up 14/10

Not sure whether I'd got Jota or Bonatini up front, I'll leave it to Nuno.

I dislike Villa. Quite a lot. A lot more than Albion any way. So I hope we burst their little bubble!

Not even close for me - Blues are by far and away the Midlands side I dislike the most. I don't really care much about Albion, and have a lot of time for Villa.

Fact is we have people we can bring on who do not weaken the team at all - just bring a different skill set to the game

As important is that we have a Manager who certainly appears to know what he is doing - am happy to leave the final selection up to him

I grew up in an overspill town, with a bit of every team, but more Villa than anyone else. With them winning the League and the European Cup in the 80's and us getting relegated a lot it built up a hatred for them I still have to this day.

I have upmost respect for their history and fan base particularly on away games. Reality is if Villa were a London or Manchester based club they'd be lauded far more than they are.
Compare their history to the likes of West Ham or Even Spurs and they'll blow them out the water.

Suppose it's because I'm down south, but can't think that I give any of those teams any thought whatsoever.

Aggravatingly though keep getting emails off Villa (must have registered for something at some time to get info & haven't worked out how to turn them off yet

The great thing is that our forwards are so flexible that Nuno can play any one of them up top. And although I was not sure about Bonatini to begin with, I think I would start with him. And the options available are almost unbelievable for this division.

Play at our best and we will win.

Bloody hell they're rather cocky at the moment.. https://www.villatalk.com/topic/16269-1718-promotion-charge/?page=64

I'd love us to win this. Especially working in Birmingham city centre. I've always been surrounded by Villa fans - I don't mind Villa TBH but they're always so bloody cocky after a few wins!

According to one idiot, they should be confident because they beat Notts Forest, who beat Sheffield Utd, who beat us......

Football logic at it's finest :icon_lol:

Don't think that's too bad tbh. Certainly seen worse. There is certainly an over-confidence though, however they have won 4 on the bounce.

I don't mind Villa - almost a soft spot in that My dad & grandad are both villa fans. Blues are the ones I dislike most, then albion. Villa are miles behind.

Still wanna trash em though, so I can gloat to me dad...:)

The 4 wins are against Barnsley, Forrest, Burton and Bolton 3 of whom you'd expect to be in the bottom 3rd of the league. But you can only beat what's in front of you.
Watching them against Forrest they have a very weak under belly especially after conceding. What I'll say is whom in their possible starting 11 would you swap for anyone in ours. I'm struggling to be fair.

I think i'd start with Bonatini - I wouldn't expect villa to keep a high-line and bonatini is better with his back to goal and bringing others into play. I'd have Jota & Costa playing off him.

If Villa play a high-line then play Jota

If we need to change it Jota goes up top and Cav can come in for bonatini

Sorry, and have a go at me if you want, but clearly this team is nowhere near as good as we think it is.

Oh agreed mate. I think Bruce is a poor manager. They may scrape 6th, and the 4 wins masks the work really needed there. I think their squad lacks balance, and cohesion.

Most villa fans I know (& I include family in that) have reservations about bruce, his signings, and the squad in general. They only really have 1 goal threat, plus set pieces. I think they're likely to finish mid-table personally. All that said, 4 wins with no goals conceded is understandably likely to give them some confidence. That it may be misappropriate is true, and potentially to our benefit :)

It is their threat from set pieces that we need to be aware of. Hopefully we will improve our defending from such situations. I think it is probably the one thing that needs addressing as a priority.

Conceded 0 from set plays on Saturday.....

We could be ace at defending them but JT is bloody good at attacking them as well.

Agreed. Maybe it is being over critical, but we have conceded a few from set pieces. And Aston Villa will doubtlessly put a few high balls into our box.

You should probably be just outside the area to get a clear view on everything
