Ask Wolves

Fosun like all good businesses shout have an aim, goal etc for say in 5 years. If there’s is to just still be in the PL then they need to move on.
It’s ok just saying we’ve got this and this ambition but they’re not backing it up anymore.
None of the fans are demanding that we compete for the CL but at least give us an idea of where you want to be. Frankly fans don’t give a crap about EA sports and corporate rubbish.
Sort out the first team believe it or not that’s all everyone is bothered about.

Only watched the Jeff one so far. It's not ideal but I do see some of the thinking, he talks about needing to raise the financial ceiling and attract new investment and sponsors to do so, he also says they are looking to improve the squad but that doesn't go hand in hand with huge spending when you are capped at the level Wolves are (I.E not a long term super power). I think some of his tone is being misjudged in some of the reporting though from people.

I can understand that he is looking at different types of fans and considering the angles there, the issue is though that a huge amount of Wolves recent fans or at least popularity with the global Prem base, has come through being someone who came in and unsettled the top 6 sides and were beating them. Many of the global fans of the Superleague teams were also against the Super League, despite having less of an impact on them that it would domestic fans, Wolves also seem to be making the mistake of believing our fans wouldn't be similar in mindset.

Questions I have unanswered or have concerns from though.

1) Our smart taking chances on younger players with a pathway for playing time has backfired with Silva but it wouldn't be wise to move away from this, need to learn from it though that it's can't be such a huge outlay.

2) esports, how do you turn the revenue from esports into something that is viable for a Premier League club. Evil Geniuses or Fnantic are serial winners at esports and yet their total income is dwarfed by just two seasons of Prem broadcasting money

3) A football team can, and should look for revenue and income obviously but don't forgot that a football team is a poor way to make money, what other businesses spend close to or over 90% of their turnover on wages for example

Yep the only ones who make big money in football are the players and agents.
Anyone who owns a club and wants to
make huge money is only going to do that by vastly improving the clubs status from when they purchased it.
The idea of being self sufficient is noble but probably flawed. Not saying spend £100m each window but at times you’re going to have to use your own money. Just the way it is, trying to attract outside investment at a club our size and location won’t be easy.
If that’s the route then owners need to be prepared that our place in the food chain will exist from bottom 6 PL to top 10 championship.

What i find odd is that he seems to treating the fans that pour the most money into the club with the least respect. Yeah it'd be great if a couple of million Koreans start clicking like on some videos, but that's the most they'll be doing.

The 200k or so local Wolves fans will be buying shirts, tat and tickets! Keeping them happy as well as expanding the global brand is surely the way to go rather than alienating one over the other.

I always want a full and raucous Molineux but would love it after ST renewals this season that the unsold tickets were turned down by the whole waiting list. This fallacy of 10k in the wings is what means they treat existing match going fans with such contempt.

EP has it right - by all means generate additional revenues from other streams, fan bases, genres and ideas, but don't forget your core reason for existing and core support that makes it worthwhile.

Also, he admitted in his interview that he didn't realise how much cash it would take to break into the top 4.

Fucking hell, what a weapon, there can't be (m)any football fans in Britain that don't know it costs hundreds of millions to manage that!? Is it any wonder we all got so excited??

The more time goes on the more i think he fell very fortunate with Nuno (and that would have been down to Mendes), all the appointments Nuno aside have been average to shit at best (Zenga, Lambert, Lage).

He also managed to let seemingly good blokes like Thelwell and Dalrymple go.

Yep I think the remaining parts of when we got it right between 17/18 & 18/19 has carried us to where we are now. One by one we’re losing that side or they’ve become stagnant at the club.
It’s a simplistic thing but your best way to market the club is by how the first team perform.
If that’s good then everything filters down, whilst maintaining or improving other parts of the club priority is the first team above everything.

Starting to work my way through these now. Nothing from Jeff I didn't expect really, at least he's on the same page as us regarding pushing for the top 6 in the fact that it ain't happening. Just watching Vinny the Commercial Giant, and did I hear him say that the deal with Castore was a huge success and the average price of a home shirt was £24? If that's the case can I have my £31 back?

The average probably was £24 they had some form of offer on for pretty much the whole 2nd half of the season maybe longer.

Yep, I got mine for £16 when they had a promotion that was something to do with Coady in Jan/Feb.

So what Megamind Vinny is suggesting is that no-one buys the shirt when it's launched and just wait for them to slash the prices later on, because they definitely will. Genius.

Interesting that in the Sellars video he says that he will "push for" any funds raised through sales to be re-invested.

Push for it? Surely that should be an absolute given. I think this is going to be the season where the balance fully tips the other way and you'll see a negative net spend.

The city game a few weeks back pretty much told you where we were in the food chain and at what level the elite operate at.
For us to even push the top 6 on a regular basis is unsustainable.
The top 6 at one point was just the top 4 Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea & Liverpool, the City and Spurs joined. Newcastle if they spend properly will probably making it a 7.

Repeatedly mentioned Wolverhampton has only 200k people- totally uninterested in local/matchgoing fans
It's actually 225,000 but he's failing to realise that the wider catchment area is much bigger than that. We have supporters in paces like Codsall, Tipton and Wombourne as well as the likes of Cannock and Telford.

I disagree with that, the City game showed what a circus we are under Lage.

We had no problem being competitive with them previously. Ok, we lost some of the games, but the only one where we never had a sniff was when Boly got a shocker of a red card early on.

That'll happen if you overbuy on a product with 12 months on the sell buy date and even then the value depreciates over time

Yep. Anything west of Wolverhampton is our territory as bar Shrewsbury/Telford, there's nothing else there until you hit the Welsh border.

We have support north of us as well, North Staffs is partly Wolves.

I tend to buy my shirts towards the end of the season only because I like collecting them over the years. I’ll occasionally wear them to games and never wear them on non match days. Still cost £25

A lot of us WM exiles living in Bridgnorth too
