2015 Cricket World Cup Australia/ New Zealand

Could the Aussies not have called Anderson back? It's not like then weren't going to win the game.

Wierd on TMS they seem to think it was the right decision, then again it was Jim Maxwell and Alan Border commentating.
What it highlights is huge anomaly in DRS.
If in the final England need two runs of the last ball it hits the pads and runs down for 4 byes, but the batsmen is wrongly given out LBW which is overturned on review but the runs aren't given England lose a game they have technically won.

The ICC have at least come out and said the decision was wrong

Surely this scenario would have been discussed amongst umpires in the past I find it truly amazing that the two on field umpires and the third umpire got it wrong. The standard of umpiring at the moment is poor at its best.

First class umpires don't have to prove any knowledge of the laws in this country before they are appointed. This was a huge sore point with the umpires and scorers association when I was officiating as only umpires who had passed written and practical exams could be appointed to games by the county cricket associations. I'm pretty sure it's the same in other countries so no-one on the international panel will have had to prove they know the laws. In my experience very few players know the laws properly either.

Don't umpires have to pass a test about their knowledge of laws of the game?

The whole thing has made the umpires look stupid and the ICC with egg on their face, the original decision to give Taylor out was woeful in the first place.

We could have a decent game here. Pakistan chasing 300 have started well, and if Sohail gets going then they will have a decent chance. Shame I am going out and will miss it...

Australia are head and shoulders favourites but I think they will choke! Dont know why but a feeling bthey will be complacent and get turned over. South Africa or India for me

Ireland, needing 305 to win are cruising at 284 for 3 with plenty of overs left... West Indies really don't seem to be bothered

Great result, watched a bit of the Windies innings and Ireland were bowling and fielding really well (didnt see the last 15 overs when they must have cut loose). Then by the sound of it a very good batting display to get 305.

Also nice to stick two fingers up to the ICC and the majority of the test playing nations who have made it clear in the last few years that they are not interested on the minnows and how they develop. Cricket must be the only sport where the governing body are not interested in spreading the game.

I'm really pleased they've stuck two fingers up to the icc, Ireland have some really good county cricketers but unless they get more chance to progress and develop internationally anyone who becomes very good will end up being nicked by England which is silly. You can have Morgan back though btw!

Its strange that they don't want countries like Ireland, Netherlands and Afghanistan who are making strides to progress and increase the sports appeal, I read somewhere that since the last world cup Ireland has played only 9 1-day internationals against test playing countries in the last 4 years (2 of those were against England, who played them under duress), the Aussies and Pakistan are the only ones who seem to show a bit of encouragement.

The next world cup is cut down to 10 teams, top 8 ranked plus 2 others, you can't get ranking points unless you are playing the top teams even if Ireland were to win the world cup this year we wouldn't have enough points to make the top 8. It is a closed shop where the top 8 don't want anyone else, given the chance they would ditch Zimbabwe.

Thirty years ago Rugby and Cricket had similar global appeal 8 or so nations who took it seriously, since then compare rugby's attitude, introducing Italy/Argentina to regular top class competition, the 7's series going round the world (this week was in Las Vegas), Commonwealth games/Olympic participation, regular matches with weaker nations (even if only fielding second strings), 20 team world cups.

You can argue that its hasn't all worked and still not enough teams are competitive at the highest level but at least they are trying and encouraging the smaller nations.

You can keep Morgan!!!
