He can't be serious. Saying it's the best any coach would do with those players is insulting all coaches. If he really thinks the players are worse than that of Bangladesh then that doesn't say a lot about the coaching at youth and county level in English Cricket.

It shows that stuffed shirt blazer types are no longer needed in sport and I would say that in any sport. The days of aging privileged white men running sport should be all done and dusted by now.

Seems Saker is going regardless, he's handed his notice in.

The Telegraph seem to think Moores is for the chop.

Yet another century from Kumar Sangakarra, his fourth in a row. I think I have asked this before, but just how good is Sangakarra, and how does he compare with the greats of the game?

He should be compared with the greats of the last 20 or so years - Ponting, Tendulkar, Lara - on his record. Averages 58!!! in tests, has scored over 12,000 test runs. In ODI's he has 14,000 runs, averaging 42 and most ODI dimissals by a keeper. Also has over 60 international hundreds. Fantastic player.

That is my thinking as well. I never include Bradman in these matters, as he was clearly the greatest of all time. But Sangakarra is up there with the rest. And to put him in such distinguished company as those you mentioned shows how good he is.

To show just how good he is I've looked at the following test averages for players from 1990-ish onwards

Sangakarra - 58.66 from 130 tests
Kallis - 55.37 from 166 tests
Tendulkar - 53.78 from 200 tests
Younis Khan - 53.37 from 96 tests
Lara - 52.88 from 131 tests
Amla - 52.78 from 82 tests
Chanderpaul - 52.33 from 161 tests
Dravid - 52.31 from 164 tests
Yousuf - 52.29 from 90 tests
de Villiers - 52.09 from 98 tests
Ponting - 51.85 from 168 tests

Obviously Bradman was the greatest ever and no one will get near his average. Sangakarra absolutely deserves to be in the conversation of great batsmen and probably doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Those statistics speak for themselves. I did not realise he had a higher test average than Tendulkar. Sangakarra must be ranked as one of the best batsmen of all time. I know that I really enjoy watching him bat. Everything seems so natural and almost effortless. A wonderful player indeed.

His stats are even better as a specialist batsman. 82 Tests without the gloves and averages 69.35 with 31 hundreds vs 48 as keeper, averaging 40.48 with 7 hundreds.

He didn't master English conditions though did he? I will look at those stats.

Elsewhere on the planet his figures are remarkable.

EDIT - Averages over 40 in England which is still good.

His record in tests in England

11 matches, 862 runs, average 41.04, 2 hundreds. Still a decent record

Yes I edited my post. Maybe his record for Warwickshire is clouding my judgement.

EDIT: He averaged 49 for Warwickshire.

Did pretty well for Durham in his short spell there last season if memory serves.

Incredible player and a proper gent as well.

England win. Party in the street, Knighthood for Moores. Afghanistan put to bed in a match controlled by the rain. Afghanistan got 111-6 from 36 or so over. The DLM set England a target of 101 from 25 overs. We did it in the 18th over. Hales the only wicket going for 37 and Bell hit 52no. 101-1.

Take that Scotland and Afghanistan. What a World Cup.

If only the tournament started now, we would show those Kiwis and Aussies how to play...

Daft end to the Pakistan - Ireland game

Pakistan need 5 from 30 balls to win but the last 2 overs have all been about getting a century for Sarfraz. 5 balls from the last over were all blocked by Akmal so there is enough runs needed for the ton.

After ignoring a single, he finally hits the 4 needed for his 100. 1 run needed for the win now.

Odd scenes in that over. 1st ball - single ignored, 2nd ball - 4. rest of the over, all defended. 1 run needed with 7 wickets in hand. Pakistan should have ended this game 4 overs ago.
