    Brentford 1-4 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I do think sometimes we can all go “huh?” at some of O’Neil’s tactics - West Ham, Sheffield United, Brighton - but I do agree with this in that we are a fairly well drilled attacking outfit now. So many times over the past three seasons I’ve gotten increasingly frustrated with our tendency to...

O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

It’s a chicken and egg isn’t it, do you sign players that the coach wants/fits his style (which may be short lived) or do you recruit coaches that suit the style you want to play and sign players that can be coached into that style. Some would argue that a decent manager can coach a player to...

Welcome to Wolves - Nathan Collins

I think they’ve played him in a back three at times which to be fair I can see him being very good at. He has all of the attributes to be a good defender, he can just make very costly mistakes.

    Halfway Report

Very fair comment! I would be surprised though, and probably a bit annoyed.

O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

I can’t see a world where GON vacates for another in the summer - nor should he if he keeps this up. The players clearly like him too. He wasn’t an exciting appointment but with our situation at the time we weren’t going to attract a manager with the pedigree of Lopetegui. It was always going...

    Halfway Report

I think it is pretty much a guarantee he will be here in the summer unless another Premier League club that finishes higher fancies taking a punt. And even then I’m not sure he’d go (or anyone would take said punt).

    Welcome to Wolves: Mario Lemina

New deal as soon as possible please, Hobbs.

    Halfway Report

I would go for a solid B. I think there has been improvement in individuals under O’Neil: Hwang, Cunha and RAN mainly. As I said over on the Brentford thread, he appears to have ‘solved’ the Cunha riddle and we now utilise him to such an effect that he’s of the utmost importance to the team and...

O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

He’s not going to be perfect after 15-16 months of Premier League management but I think there are some signs of improvement. And he has improved/knows how to utilise players we have: Hwang and Cunha have come on a fair bit, and after his Boxing Day heroics last year RAN began to get frozen out...

O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

Him and his team deserve a fair amount of credit for how this season has gone thus far. 5 wins (max) from safety and 27 goals scored already - albeit at the expense of a bit of defensive solidity. I think GoN is benefitting here from a fairly solid coaching set up and the players do clearly buy...

    Brentford 1-4 Wolves: Verdict Thread

There’s a good player in there somewhere but he is a calamity waiting to happen, as proven tonight.

    Brentford 1-4 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Thought O’Neil’s comments re. pressing were interesting post match too and that it was a pretty foreign concept to a team that were drilled to sit back and let the opposition progress. I’m not sure how much of that under JL was down to dreadful fitness however.

    Brentford 1-4 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Clearly identified as a weak link which, you know, it’s Collins in a back four - of course it’s a weak link.

    Brentford 1-4 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Special mention for Cunha who I think is incredibly important to this team and how it plays too, at times him and Sarabia were unplayable tonight with their speed of thought. And when he runs with the ball at his feet? Sensational.

    Brentford 1-4 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Thought Gomes and RAN were absolutely superb tonight. Brentford did hand it to us but it’s nice to see some clinical finishing. Average of 35 goals the last three seasons and up to 27 already - it may be coming at the somewhat expense of defensive solidity but O’Neil has certainly solved the...

    The Football News Thread 2023/24

I don't think so. The team that finished 18th is pissing the Championship. It's a bit win/win for the Premier League: made an example of a club breaching FFP which probably won't see them relegated anyway, and Leicester are going to bounce straight back up regardless.

Not sure if FotMob was throwing a wobbly, or Lage is moonlighting as a tactician for the Portugal national team, but was Neves in the middle of a back three for Portugal yesterday?!

What was dreadful was the appalling transfers that got us into the mess in the first place.

    Relegation Thread 2023/24

I suppose you never know: the points deduction could give the three newly promoted clubs an incentive/one or more of them may spend big in January. But I've seen nothing from the three of them to suggest any one of them will stay up. Luton would probably be the horse I'd back, if any.
