Wolves Academy Thread

I know we don't want them injured for the weekend but we have to give them meaningful games and this was a really good opportunity. Disappointed with the management on this.
I suppose we have the International Cup games coming up. Sparta Prague and Nice before the end of the month.

But yeah, they should be playing here, I'd argue we could play Santi too.

Iirc Fraser has been missing from the last few u21 games too. He may well have an injury

Bentley can get you knocked out of cups at any level it would seem. Comes for a corner, stops, goes back, spills shot because he's not set and they score the rebound

The game looks very one sided from the stats. Is that a fair reflection?

Really poor against a side who were stronger, but also played a few kids. Was told their line up was dependent on how Lincoln did last night as they want to win this. There's not a player tonight who is remotely close to first team minutes and that includes Bentley and Gonzales, the latter is strong which surprised me, but didn't beat his man all evening. We won't be seeing him play for the first team this season.

Saw Matty Murray in the toilets and fanboid over him...when appropriate

Fraser currently injured and it seems Chirewa missed last night as he is with the 1st team at the moment

We've been here before, but I don't understand how the players development is best served from training with the first team but not playing games. Being 21st man every week is a good experience no doubt, but a game at a decent stadium, against some League 1 players 3 days before the next first team game would surely benefit the player?

The only reason will be he is on the edge of the matchday squad. Part of the squad that trained for Sheff Utd but was one of the players that missed out. Probably an injury doubt with one of the players involved at Sheff Utd so he has been kept in the 1st team training this week. Don't want to risk him picking up an injury in a game and they probably feel extended time training with the 1st team is not that far off a game in the Whatever its called now Trophy.
As Nuno would say, have to just the process. I have seen nothing of him but he must be seen as a serious talent at Wolves if he is already caught between the U21's and the 1st team

That's true, but he's very unlikely to be getting any first team minutes even from the bench - I see no reason why he can't train with the first team, join the squad to experience a matchday, and still get game time with the yoof where it's a couple of days either side of a first team matchday

I thought he was going to be a competent back up GK but he really isn't.

Probably one of the hardest spots to fill in a squad. You try and get 2 quality keepers and it creates a situation that is currently bubbling away at Arsenal.

Plus side though - At least we aren't a Prem League team with Andy Lonergan as a back up option

Best solution surely is to have an up and coming promising keeper as second choice who knows that he needs to bide his time . He'll remain hungry for a little while , be good back up , before moving on .
Then get another one , rinse and repeat .

Same jeopardy though as doing what we have done. Will he stand up to the levels in the PL.

We went down the Bentley route over Sarkic because he would bring something to the team off the pitch. By all accounts he is brilliant in that area but I just wouldn't want him playing multiple games in the PL. Similar to what Ruddy was doing when back up to Rui and we missed that part in our squad.

There is no simple fix for a back up, each one has its issues. You are either trusting a decent keeper to be patient, trusting a kid is up to the standard required or trusting a more experience keeper can handle the level he is now at.

Would be less of a concern if I thought our number one GK was any good also.
